Plan B and Judgmental Crap
I read the post on emergency contraception (Plan B) earlier. What stunned me were all the comments from people saying that the pill was just going to be exploited by heathens who are having casual sex.
Excuse me?
I'm 20 and I don't really know anyone who is having casual sex.
Most of my friends are in committed relationships. They practice safe sex and they communicate well with their partners. They're in it for the long haul.
I've never seen a "sex party". Never picked anyone up at a club. I've never leapt into bed with someone I've just met. But I have taken Plan B on more than one occasion, because condoms break.
People are so quick to condemn others for their sexual decisions.
But really, what do you know about these deeply private matters? About other people's emotions?
Have you ever experienced the terror of a broken condom? A missed pill? If you haven't, then you really shouldn't be judging others for buying Plan B.
Self deprivation is not grace. You are not holy for abstaining from sex. You are not on any sort of moral high ground when you bash others for scrounging up the fifty bucks and buying Plan B.
Remove your head from your ass and let people make their own decisions. You're nobody to decide what medication other people should be taking.
Now, ladies, if you are 18 or over and have an ID, you can buy Plan B over the counter at your local pharmacy. If you are under 18, simply go to the nearest Planned Parenthood. You have 72 hours for it to be most effective. The pill does not cause an abortion and will not harm a fetus. The side effects don't suck anywhere near as much as an infant or an abortion.

People shouldn't judge other people when there is no way that we can know what is going on in their life. I have had to take Plan B once when the condom broke with my boyfriend, before I started taking birth control. This was the night before I was leaving the country for a few days, not exactly the thing that you want to be doing the last day you'll see your boyfriend for awhile. Haha
I agree and many people use the pill for other reason, such as to regulate their period.
You go, girl! You said what I've said so many times. There was actually a lady in line who said something rude, when I had to go get Plan B a few months ago. I wanted to punch her in her face for thinking she could judge me like that. She had no idea what was going on in my life, and she had no right to comment. Not that anyone who knew would have had any right to comment either.
//The pill does not cause an abortion and will not harm a fetus. //
I'd be careful in saying that the pill does not cause an abortion. While that was claimed in the 70's and then critically re-assessed later on, the best evidence shows that we cannot be entirely sure either way due to difficulties with our current methods of analyzing pre-implanted embryos.
//The side effects don't suck anywhere near as much as an infant or an abortion.//
An infant is a sucky side effect? Well, I guess these guys would probably agree with you (or not?) -

Like I've said before.. Plan B is the responsible thing to do whether you were being responsible or irresponsible during the incident. It's better to have irresponsible individuals not having children than having children.
Anyone who disagrees is a prick. Seriously, get off your high horse.
Har har. I already commented this.
Someone who judges another for this likely has something else going on in his/her life that could be judged just as rudely and strongly, and be misconstrued just as easily.
No one should assume anything about anyone.
@QuantumStorm@xanga - This is what it says on countless websites about plan b:
"Plan B® is not an abortion pill. It won't work if you're already pregnant. If you take Plan B® and are already pregnant, it will not affect your existing pregnancy.
Plan B® is approved by the FDA and contains levonorgestrel, a hormone found in many birth control pills that healthcare professionals have been prescribing for more than 35 years. The difference is that Plan B® contains two pills with a larger dose of levonorgestrel than the amount found in a single birth control pill."
So it will not harm an existing fetus. I am quite confident that they cannot just say whatever they want in order to sell potentially harmful drugs. Notice how it contains a hormone found in birth control pills. My friend got pregnant while on birth control but did not know. She continued to take it until her third month of pregnancy, when she found out. It did not harm her baby.
And I agree. I think that plan b is an amazing discovery and will prevent many unwanted pregnancies. People who have a problem with it obviously would much rather prefer an existing life (the mom) to be ruined than for that mother to take a pill that could have prevented it from happening. Yes, babies are awesome little miracles. But some people want to wait to have them, and this pill helps that happen. So get over it.
i think it just depends on the person about being holy. sometimes, abstaining does mean a person is keeping their body holy. i dont think that you should be demeaning to those people... they are just stating what they believe. It is very wrong to be judgmental towards others though, but it sure is what everyone does!
no matter what, this is just going to depend on what the person believes in. i mean, this is xanga. you can't really have the "right" answer. this debate will always go on and on... there isnt really any point in going on with this
i have quite a few friends that go to sex parties and use this pill. people do need to be responsible over their irrisponsibilites, just like @Neurotically_Mine@xanga said. We just need to be responsible. If a condom breaks, we should take the initiative to do what is responsible.
good post.
Great post. I had to help my friend get these pills and it was a wild goose chase. The only hospital in town was catholic, so they would not supply them. It was also a sunday, so most of the pharmacies were closed. We eventually found an open pharmacy and after some issues with age and ID, we got the pills. The stress and worry was immense. Thanks again for posting this article.
Well said, THANK YOU. =)
You go girl!
Plan B is for every girl who thinks there was accidental leakage and doesn't want to get pregnant when they're not ready.
For those who judge people for using a plan B option or abortions or what not...do you really want to have a kid you can't mentally/financially/emotionally take care of? The kid will grow up hating him/herself thinking they made their parents so bitter and resentful.
I agree. I took Plan B on one occasion. I am not irresponsible with sex and I am in a committed relationship with my boyfriend. Accidents do happen and I am glad women have the oppertunity to have Plan B as a back up.
Plan b /morning after pill whatever you have.
Is for both responsible/casual sex goers, people are entitled to their opinions but are extreamly ignorant to judge those taking the pill, if anything there then taking a responsible step in takin the pill!
Abstaining may not seem holy to some people but that's an opinion ...they shouldnt judge you and you shouldnt judge them on there beliefs. There is a very think line between an opinion and a judgement.
Very well said.
Exactly.
Self deprivation is not grace. You are not holy for abstaining from
sex. You are not on any sort of moral high ground when you bash others
for scrounging up the fifty bucks and buying Plan B.
LOVE IT! Great post!
Plan B is not horrible at all.
ppl who criticize other ppl for using Plan B are ppl who probably point fingers at people who believe in PROCHOICE in regards to abortions.
they think their decision making qualities are superior to others... and like you've said, their heads are in their asses. hahaha
great post
Well said. I always enjoy reading your posts.
I love the first comment on the post that you linked:
"People need to pick their battles, honestly.
They're not happy with abortion but they aren't happy with
contraception techniques either?"
This sums up my thoughts.
@kor_girl@xanga - I'm ProLife and I support Plan B. Please don't assume that all Conservatives are judgmental. That was very ignorant on your part.
Wait a minute. You have taken Plan B more than once? Doesn't that kind of disprove your point? It seems like your issue is user error since it has happened more than just a few times. Maybe you should try a different condom brand or size if they seem to break so frequently or be more vigilant with your pills, or just use two methods like people who really want to be safe do.
good post :D
The morning after pill has been around for a long while now. I've never heard of anyone abusing it and nor have I heard of it being abused after Plan B began to advertise. Morning after pills are dangerous for the body to use it regularly and it even tells you not to use it as a form of contraception but for emergencies.
Honestly, the people who say that others will use it to be more promiscuous have half of their brain missing.
