She relayed the somewhat terrifying tale of hooking up with this older guy she's been using for the past six months or so - she tells the guy where he's taking her out to dinner, which Broadway show she wants to see and afterward, she reluctantly goes home with him and lets him have his way with her. I'll spare you the details, but the phrase "like a Chihuahua humping your leg" was used . . . so . . . draw your own conclusions. Suffice it to say that it was pretty gross.
The way she talked so casually about their hooking up made me a little uncomfortable and led me to a startling realization - my roommate is either a serious gold digger or a straight up prostitute. I mean, I'd love to think she's just the former, but she tells these guys (it's not just him!) where she wants to go to dinner and what she wants to do and only relents when he asks her to come back to his place. I think I need to move out.

Funny that you put that question at the end of your post because I was about to ask you that. I usually think of gold diggers as dating whoever they are getting what they want from, prostitutes, although I guess they may have repeat customers don't date.
To me, the difference is that one is a service and the other isn't, it's kind of an attitude, an opinion that she deserves to be pampered and spoiled with money etc. I don't really know how to describe it lol
Could you ask her if she's an escort? I know its awkward but it could be better to hear from her what's going on then coming up with all these various ideas in your head that may not be true.
I think I'd almost respect an escort more than a gold digger. It seems less dishonest.
Haha, I guess the difference is the inherent sense of entitlement that gold diggers possess? I know I wouldn't have the balls to demand it all (even if I wanted to live the gold digger lifestyle)
An escort is getting paid to be a pretend trophy girlfriend and do a little something-something too... I really don't see that much of a difference.

A gold digger has to be somewhat committed to the person, even sometimes go through with marriage. While, a prostitute, doesn't always have a say in the matter.
I'm pretty sure that prostitues actually get paid from their 'services' and not just taken out on the town every nighttt. And gold diggers, instead of getting the money they just tell the person what they want and they get it.
I don't think there is any kind of a substantial difference in the two. The only difference I can think of is the motivation behind it, the gold digger thinks she is somehow entitled to the money and shows and everything while the prostitute just sees sex as a way of obtaining something she otherwise would be able to get.

A female escort or a prostitute, generally, depend on the money to make a living. They take cash, from what I understand. The relationships between escort / prostitute and the client is a friendship, or a business partnership - where, arguably, no one is using the other and it's very clear what the relationship is...compared to, say, a gold digger.
A gold digger doesn't take hard cash, but rather takes meals and nice things - basically, not things that she NEEDS but things she wants. She may also resort to manipulating the guy into thinking they're in a romantic relationship so that he will buy her nice things and be her doormat.
Of course, these aren't hard and fast rules, but I'm just speaking generally. I'm sure there are escorts who manipulate their clients and make them believe it's a romance, and I'm sure there are gold diggers who see it as a business.

Men feel more legitimate and respectful towards the gold-digger than a straight-up prostitute.
Gold diggers want the whole lifestyle and put up with all the bs that goes with it.
Escorts (I think your roommate is one) want the life with out the BS... a lil date, spend some time, do it and get the money. It's more honest.
But when you think about it, most women who date are prostituting in some form... they pay for company... and you give them that and sometimes more.
You may disagree but everyone sells themselves at some point for something...
lol a whore is a woman/man who engages in sexual intercourse for money. A gold digger in this context is a woman who associates with or marries a rich man in order to get valuables from him through gifts or a divorce settlement.
sociey is so open nowadays, i thought people would be ok with whatever lifestyle there is/people choose. since we're all or mostly sleeping around whats the difference hahaha. whatever your roomie chooses, its her choice and theres always consequences.
to me, a gold digger is someone who receives things from other people and it has somewhat to do with how they look and the things they get are mostly free but who knows if its really free...
prostitutes on the other hand get paid to have sex. your roomie is just lacking the "standing out there and soliciting herself". if your really uncomfortable than get a new place to live or talk to your roomie about it, have those kind of conversations when your not there.

Well both labels imply that the women is using men for material goods, and if the guy can pay for it these girls will be with him. The only difference I can see is that an escort is a job while a good digger is a lifestyle. A good digger is also looking for a rich guy to date/marry, while the escort is paid by the guy to be with him. So in short the relationship with escort and client is mutual while the gold digger is somewhat manipulating the guy to get what she wants. That's my two cents:).
