Questionable Ways to Say "I Love You"
Have you ever noticed how many ways there are to say "I love you"? And not only that, the majority of them are unacceptable in terms of whether or not you really mean it. The first time someone said it to me for real was in the seventh grade - he was in eighth. Now, I don't believe love has an age limit, but this probably didn't mean much...or at least it doesn't now. The ways to say those three huge-ass words basically depend on your view and definition of love, I suppose. Here are some of the ways that I've found unacceptable by either saying them or experiencing them:1) AFTER THREE DAYS
Now, I'm not one to judge, but it just doesn't seem that you know me well enough after 72 hours to make an honest call about how you feel about me.2) While around a ton of friends
Not that it isn't great that you're secure about yourself so that you can do that mushy stuff in front of everyone, but for the first "I love you", putting me on the spot would not be in your best intrest.3) Through text
Now honestly, I wouldn't mind this a bit. But somewhere along the way people have decided that text is not a reasonable place for the first time to say it. I understand that and would rather it not be in text, but I don't view this as completely unacceptable.4) Texting "luv ya"
This I do have a problem with. If you don't feel strongly enough about me to spell it out.. well it's just not sentimental enough. Or it doesn't feel that way.5) "I think I love you"
Nice to be honest, but a big no-no in the big picture; just be sure or don't say anything. There are lots of alternatives to saying those words: I love being around you. You make me happy. I love everything about you. Don't make it so hard on yourself.The bottom line is, there's huge meaning in small words. And those mean a lot. I feel as if society throws it around too much and now no one knows how to say it so that their significant other KNOWS they mean it.
What kinds of cop-out "I love you"s have you heard of or experienced?

with my first boyfriend... he called up one day on my phone, said those three words.. and hung up!
it didn't take me too long to return the call... say what i had to...and just hang up.
really playful, but it meant so much, 2 phone calls, 3 words each. ^.^
I've heard from all my ex-boyfriends: "I will always love you". Not only is it complete bull shit but it always turns out to be a lie. Needless to say when my last BF pulled that shit on me I said to him "Dont say it, because you dont know how long 'always' is".
I hate hearing that.
The first time my ex told me he loved me, he was drunk. The second time, I was half naked. So if any guy ever says that to me again, I want it to be when we're both sober and both dressed.
I don't like it when guys say "Love you!" No, it should be "I love you." Love you sounds so platonic.
A guy I dated said it through IM. I just rolled my eyes and logged off.
My boyfriend likes to wispear it in my ear every so often. But if he is across the room talking to his friends he just mouths the words I love you. It makes me me bend at the knee.
But I also think sometimes words don't have to be said. I find my boyfriend just staring at me with dreamy eyes. When I ask him what he goes nothing.
i've dated this creepy stalker kind of exboyfriend before. i only dated him for a month, and honestly i just felt bad for him. (I KNOW CALL ME HORRIBLE, but that isn't the point of this) he begged me to date him for the longest time, so i just said whatever. i made it clear that i wasn't bonding to him. he told me he loved me all the time...PLEASE. cut me some slack! you barely know me all that well! haha. needless to say it didn't last long :)
I got an I love you the first day I was with someone. That pushed me away instead of make me get closer.
@iambravado@xanga - You're not alone. I dated a guy because I felt sorry for him. I know I shouldn't have.
I totally agree! None of these are acceptable ways to say i love you! And please for the love of GOD... don't say it if you don't mean it!!
By the way i posted a blog about 'Why men say i love you when they do't mean it' Would someone PLEASE read it and explain this catastrophe to me??
"it's not us. it's them. them and their stupid boy penis' "
@Silly_Padawan@xanga -
I was having a fight with my now-ex on the phone about something that I can't really remember and he shouts back at me something like "I fucking love you and you say that shit to me?" He never actually said "I love you" after that.
I love getting emails that just say, "I love you."
Or texts that say, "I love you."
Or like another person said, he just looks at me "What are you looking at?"
"Oh, nothing."
The way he treats me is like another "I love you."
I don't think people who tell you they love you are always lying.
I see different kinds of love.
I see love at a point in time, and then no loved at another time.
They might have loved you then, but not anymore.
It hurts... but it happens.
I hate "ily" I'm sorry but an abbreviated form of three extremely small words is unacceptable. Spell it out .It doesn't mean as much when it's like that.
Once, my college boyfriend sent me a text that said, 'lyl'. I had to ask him what it meant (love you lots) because I had no idea. I guess that after years of being out of middle school I'd lost my ability to speak eigth-grader.
@kassieisradxO@xanga - lol I agree, just spell the damn words out!
@ OT:
#4 - lol o god how much I hate #4. Seriously I hate ppl who can't or rather refuse to spell out the words and jusz typ lyk thiz, it just gets rather annoying. Those words are meant to be serious so just type it out!!!!
#5 - damn I've used #5 before.....that sucks =/ well I learned something today, I learned to now say those things you suggested instead of #5 lol
@oO_km_Oo@xanga - that is so cute!
@kk21 - this is adorable!
Yea those are unacceptable ways of saying those heartwarming words.
@kk21 - that's the most adorable thing I've ever heard lol :)
@garlicface@xanga - I get the same things. I get txt messages all the time saying I love you. I do the same back to him like in between classes. I love the little things and he seems to do that a lot.
We have a joke between us that started by accident. When he first left me at my dorm room. Because he lives an hour and a half away. He sent me a txt at the same time I sent him one saying I love you. Now we try to type it to each other around the same time.
@ayceeeeeer@xanga - Perhaps this is why we are looking at rings now.
Saying "I love you" while you're drunk. That's a BIG no-no in my book.
@kk21 - AW, THATS EVEN BETTER!
haha; good luck@Fairywife@xanga - atleast i'm not the only one, it makes me feel a little better haha :)
@ayceeeeeer@xanga - thanks.
I don't mind I love you via text, even in some of it's abbreviated forms. I can't see my SO very often and so the first time he "said" I love you was in a text. I thought he meant it in a more platonic way and asked him what he was getting at it -- but he actually meant it.
We've said it during phone conversations and via text, but honestly, I can not wait to say it to him and he feels the same way. It's really not the same and we can't convey it on the phone or with any words in a text message.
