"You'd Be My Type If You Weren't So Tall."
This is a guest blog submitted by GiantUnicorn.
I have a guy friend that I frequently flirt and joke around with even though he has a girlfriend and I'm interested in someone else. But he recently said something that shocked me."You'd so be my type, if you weren't so tall."
He's about 5'9" and I'm 6'1".
Now, I've always figured I was unapproachable because of my height, but I've never been told so directly. I was thankful for his honesty but it got me thinking...I'm afraid that my being tall will turn off a lot more hopefuls I'm interested in - my current crush is around 5'9". I'm scared he could have the same reasoning and that's why he's not making a move. I could care less about height, but from what my guy friend told me, he likes to be taller. It's "just a man thing," according to him.
We've already asked this to girls, so guys, it's your turn. Would you date a girl taller than you?
Do you like to be taller or shorter than your SO?

I dated a girl that was 6 feet tall, and I'm 5'4". It was a nonissue.
I'd prefer to be shorter than a guy I'm dating, so I guess I fit into the norms. I'm only about 5'2" or so, though, so it's not really an issue.
I don't think I can date a girl taller than me...
Need some space for the girl to wear heels too...
I prefer a guy to be my height or taller.
I've been out with girls shorter, girls close to my height, and girls taller. While it doesn't seem to matter much to me I have the impression it matters to most people.
I'm 5'5.5, but I'd like to be shorter. I prefer my men taller. 5'11-6'2 is ideal height range for me.
In high school someone said to me out of no where.. "Tina.. I'd go out with you but you're too short"
I do have to say I probably wouldn't be able to stand a guy shorter than me. Although, being (almost) 5'2", there's not many of those guys... My current boyfriend is almost a foot taller than me, and although it sometimes looks ridiculous, I love being able to look up to him.
Of course, it's not as though you can change your height or seem shorter or anything... and besides, in the end, it's not about your height - it's about your personality and your connection with someone else. If your crush likes you back, your being taller than him will have absolutely no significance.
i got a friend that use to date a guy a tinsy bit shorter than her but he keeps saying that he is taller eventhough she is actually taller like about 5-10cm...she does not care but the guy is really kinda bothered with the height issue...
I'm 5'11 and I so feel your pain!
To avoid the issue I usually just date taller guys (6'2 +)
I prefer my men to be taller than I am. But I'm 5'8" and I tend to go for European guys, so it's not really an issue anymore. Shorter guys usually don't ask me out anyway.
But I do think most men prefer their women shorter than them. I know 6'1" is taller than the average American guy, but there are plenty of taller guys, too. If all else fails, you could always move to the Netherlands, or to one of the Scandinavian countries. No shortage of tall men there! If I didn't have the hots for my bassist, I'd say go for him. He's 6'2" and likes his women eye to eye with him. hehe But I'm sure he's not the only man who sees things that way.
I have a flexible ego: I can date a taller woman; I can date an older woman - but I can not date a woman who's taller AND older.
I like to date guys taller then me. I'm 5'8 and always wear heels so I have to date someone at least 5'11 or I don't really feel like the girl in the relationship.
That's funny.... friend or no friend, I would have responded with: "You'd be my type if you weren't such an insulting blithering asshat. Funny how that works, eh?"
Don't worry about it. My best friend is very tall, and she did have some trouble.... but she's found the right guy for her anyway, because she didn't take no flak from no one! ^_^ Best of luck.
I dont date guys that's shorter than me
But I'm 5"2 - so most guys I've dated are at least 5"6 +
I date a guy shorter than me and its fiiiiine. It's not an issue for us ^^
I like my guys taller than me.
But the boyfriend is 6'2" and has dates a girl that was 5'9".
Xo
Haha. My bf is shorter and younger than me. I don't know why, but shorter guys are usually attracted to me, and I'm not that tall (5'7" and a little bit). I think it's just a testament to how confident, and strong - capable in his abilities and who he is to be with a girl who is taller and or older. It's one of the things I love about him. :0
i personally prefer guys to be at least 5'11'' (i'm 5'8''); it's just what i'm attracted to. i feel more...feminine or whatever when i'm shorter, i guess.
i think it just depends on the person, though, as i've been hit on/asked out by a few guys who were around 5''5'' or so...obviously height wasn't an issue for them.
as for your friend, what an idiot. who actually says that?
i have a thng for a guy thats about 1 inch shorter than me. It really stinks I hope he grows 1 inch somehow (i'm in between 5' 10", 5'11"
Ironically, that's how I felt when I first started talking to my boyfriend. He's a foot taller than I am, and I always thought that was a bit too much. It tends to give me a crick in the neck because I run around without shoes whenever I can. But I am adapting, and his height became more of a non-issue the more I got to know him.
Mitchell is about 5'5", maybe almost 5'6". I'm 5'7", leaning towards 5'8". It was never really a problem, but on occasion I joke around with him and say things like "Well, you know, when I first saw you, you were sitting down and I didn't know you were so short!"
But he knows I'm just kidding. Not only do I like to be shorter than the guy, I like to be SIGNIFICANTLY shorter. I don't know, it's just my preference. I'm just shy of 5'2". I've dated all heights-- the shortest has been 5'6". The tallest (and my current) is 6'0". And I love it.
Ehhh it doesn't really matter to me a woman is a magnificent treasure and they should be treated appropriately no matter what shape or size they come in.
You'll find someone. I've seen couples where the guys are shorter and they're married. Not every guy cares about height. I've had guys about two inches shorter hit on me.
But if you're still worried about it, look into tall clubs. You may find someone there.
