  • Masturbation Paraphernalia

This is a guest blog submitted by RighteousThang.

How is it that guys can get off just looking at the bra selection in a JC Penney catalog, but girls have to be all physically and emotionally stimulated first in order to actually enjoy what happens next?
I can understand a poster of a sexy Maxim model or something, but the bra selection?? They're just standing there, modeling a boring bra (JC Penney, remember, not even Victoria's Secret); they're not even looking at you.

I was always a little weirded out by the fact that my younger brother would always rip out the entire adult section of the newspaper (like the ads from strip bars i  n which they give you a coupon for One Free Lap Dance When You Join for 12 Months or all the little Call Sizzling Sexy Sandra Tonight and Make All Your Wet Dreams Come True [read in call-girl voice] ads...or whatever. He's too young to even go to those places or make those calls anyway), or rip up my Shape or Cosmopolitan magazines to keep some of its pictures and claim he never saw them, or, yes, completely remove the bra/panties/swimsuit section of any JC Penney catalog we get and keep it all under his pillow.
But I keep hearing that this is totally natural (which I know) and that every male does or has done this (which I did not know. I mean some yeah, maybe even most, but ALL? Every single one of you? I understand it's a normal, natural reaction or whatever...but...)

    So first, do
all males really do this? Search porn on the internet every chance they get and keep their own little (or big) stash of masturbation paraphernalia?

And second, how exactly does this work?  Like, okay, there are some things in guys that are definite turn-ons which don't require anything other than a dirty little mind to turn a girl on, like sexy hands, and great necks, and...okay, I won't make a list here, but there is no denying it (even though half the time it has to have something attached, like brains or talent or something). But when I try to look at male underwear models, the way I've seen guys look at female underwear models, nothing happens. No eruption of passion, no imagination running off to places it shouldn't, no automatic instinct to tear out the page and save it for later, nothing. I just...end up laughing cause the models look so cocky standing there looking at nothing with what I'm guessing is supposed to be a tough, manly look on their faces...only it doesn't really work on them 'cause you can totally tell they're trying too hard to fake it. Oh, and that it must have totally hurt them to get that waxing. But would a guy ever think that of a female model?

So, if you can answer any of those questions, or possibly know any pictures of good looking male underwear models who do not look all full of themselves, feel free.

I seem to recall a few of Ashton Kutcher's Calvin Klein ads that didn't look so bad, but I can't find those ones... I only see the ridiculous ones on Google.

  • ayceeeeeer@xanga

    agreed, with everything you said.

I'll never understand guys constant need for sex, "hot"girls, etc.

  • awokenfatality@xanga

I think you're reading too much into it. If they can't get porn magazines, those catalogs are the next best thing. The chosen models tend to be very attractive wearing almost to nothing. If it's a normal and natural thing like you said that you know it is, then why are you questioning it?

Evolutionarly speaking, we have the disposition to pass as many of our genes as possible, since men have the oppertunity to spread their genes more than once in a 9 month period, we would expect them to be less selective of their partners. Females on the other hand, spend much more time and energy in their effort to pass along their genes and are therefore more selective of their mates and incidentally the proper enviornment for mating.

Hmm. Very good question. To your first question, I'd say 90-99% of guys search for/have/found/look at/wish-they-had-but-are-too-embarrassed porn or equivalent. I'd say 95-99.9% of guys masturbate. I daresay the DESIRE (for both) is ingrained and not just societal. But why/how? I don't think I can explain that anymore than any other urge/feeling/desire/compulsion that causes us to scratch our heads. Our bodies are pretty smart. I find that when I forget to eat fruit or I am out of milk for several days, my body just craves it and when I finally get some it tastes so good. The same way a pregnant woman has all kinds of weird food cravings. Your body has physical desires. Now, you can consciously deny those physical desires (which accounts for the 1-9% and the 0.1-5%), but there's usually not much need to, barring religous or other factors that say you should deny them. Those desires are just stronger in men and require less external focus than in 'most' women. Perhaps in a similar way that one person may lust after ALL kinds of chocolate, not just the dreamy melty smooth creamy high quality kind that someone else only wants. Not every desire is explicable... *shrug*

Can't help you there--I don't even enjoy porn because I'm too busy thinking about how ridiculous the people involved look.  I'm more of a literary person myself =)

  • Tokimon@xanga

i don't reallly find guy pictures hot that's for sure

  • surveys_for_nimrods@xanga

Um. I'm a girl and I don't need to be super turned on to enjoy what happens next. I enjoy "sexy time" with my boyfriend either way, honestly.
    Xx

It's a brain chemistry thing. Male arousal is entirely a physiological response (usually to sight stimuli, but also smell and feel). Women's arousal is partially a physiological response but also has centers in other parts of the brain... parts more attached to emotion and thought centers. Which is to say, women require something more than just a stimulus to get turned on. Sorry girls.

When it comes to sex, guys are very visual. Imagines from magazines, porn, etc help along with the act of masturbation.

Women however, really need to "get into it." Girls need to think about it for awhile, or reminice about a past time they had sex, or think about being romantically involved, etc. The emotional bonding for women is important because an emotional bond helps to secure the idea of a longstanding relationship, which secures a woman and her future children in a stable future. (Since the begining of humans, anyway. It's all subconcious)

Anyway, this is all very generalized. Of course there are guys that feel they need a deep emotional bond with someone or very well thought out fantasies to get off, and there are women that can get themselves off rather easily.

Really, sex is fascinating, because it's one human quality that can differ so vastly from one human to another.

There are definitely biological factors behind it.. Guys just want to get that egg in an attractive gal fertilized, and girls want to make sure they can get protection/the best genes they can. In the wild, anyways. It makes sense~ If a female mates with more intelligent guys, there's more of a chance her offspring won't die because of stupid mistakes. If a guy seeks out the most 'attractive' girl, there's more of a chance that she'll be able to raise healthy offspring in the first place (Think about it.. wide hips deliver kids better, bigger boobs have more milk, etc..).

All of that aside, I think I'm closer to the norm for guys in the aspects that you've pointed out... But I've always been weird, so you might want to put me down as an abnormality. :)

    @awokenfatality@xanga - I agree.

I forgot what age do most teens touch themselves, around 12-13?I don't think a big idea unless thats all his does and locks himselves in his room 24/7. Sex has with stress. So therefore maybe in touching one's self, we get rid if stress and of course there are the times when we are really horny.

I can watch porn and enjoy it. Ahaha. When I'm really horny. I don't normally justwatch porn to be turned on then touch myself.

  • LadyOblivious@xanga

It's not all guys.  Some have very specific tastes and only watch certain types of porn.  Some almost don't do it at all.  Strange to hear that huh?

Oh and I get the underwear model thing, they look weird to me. lol

  • abcxunt@xanga

i can masturbate to just about anything.

  • harmonyminusmelody@xanga

sometimes i wish getting my girlfriend horny wasn't so incredibly difficult... with me, she was look at me and bang, totally hard. but her, it takes around half an hour of making out to make her able to get horny, and then it takes about 15 more minutes to make her horny enough to be pleasured, and then it takes 30-45 minutes of oral sex to get her to orgasm! it's so complicated.

  • just_the_average_jane@xanga

I think guys just tend to be more visual.  Girls get off by reading smut (if you look at female vs. male readership!).

My own experience --oddly enough, though I consider myself a straight (or at most bicurious) girl, I get off to pictures of women.  Yes, the underwear models.  I fantasize about men if I'm getting off, but if I'm looking at something, I prefer to look at girls.  Dunno what that means!

I asked my boyfriend about this once, since I have elaborate masturbation fantasies for when I want to take a long time to really indulge myself, so I asked him what his were.  Most them had no storyline and just consisted of picturing a chick.  Maybe rudimentary storyline at most, but nothing compared to mine.  This seems to be the norm though.  I don't think masturbation is unusual (for either sex) as long as you aren't spending the majority of your waking hours doing it.

  • social_code@xanga

HAHAHA i love how every other entry has about 500-600 views, but this one has over 1145 :D hahaha

  • apatheticbyte@xanga

I honestly do not know what guys see in porno. Or a Penny's ad. If I look at porn (which is probably if my guy friends think it's hilarious to turn it to the Playboy channel), I laugh hysterically. I think it's so funny! I don't know what guys see in tits and ass. I think boobs are ugly. Girls and Boys will always be different on this topic. I think it's dumb and they think it's just THEE coolest thing of all time. Whatever.

  • Schristian@xanga

I love porn. Most guys I know have their own stash of porn; or favourite site(s) to visit. Then there are the freaks. The ones who swore off porn for their woman. BLAH! Or ones who claim they never looked. Liars.

  • la_magdalena@xanga

Or maybe being emotionally involved is a socialized thing and it's not biological at all unless I happen to know a huge amount of women who do get turned on by porn, underwear ads, etc and don't always want/need some emotional fantasy.

I mean, I definitely pick up a copy of SI's swimsuit issue each year and it is not for the emotional connection.

  • RoidBear@xanga

I don't have a collection of porn under my pillow or anything like that, but I do know of a couple of sites I can check out if need be.

@Schristian@xanga - When guys say they have never watched porn....yes...they are most likely lying lol

  • Lizbianish@xanga

I watch porn with the same interest as I would a regular comedy flick, complete with popcorn, milk duds, and a fizzy drink.

  • Mike_Malignant@xanga

mean are made to spread theyre dna as much as possible while women take a lot of time to get worked up bc requires more time spent with a man and this help women chose the right partner its an evolutionary trait guys need to spend some time on the "mating dance"

  • burnburn@xanga

as you've already said it, men have more creative imagination

  • hmm_ishi@xanga
