  • Following Up on Crushes on JuicyCampus...

This is a guest blog submitted by the_prestigiator.

Petty gossip and crazy rumors have found a home on the internet known as JuicyCampus.com. Are the comments on there juicy? Oooh yeah. Are they appropriate and delightful? Hellz naw!

I have a guy friend who was obsessed with a girl from our year. He saw her walking around campus one day with her bouncing curls, little suspenders and snow boots. Homeboy was immediately enamored by her vivaciousness, to say the least.

It took a lot for him to work up the courage to finally approach her and eventually befriend her, and even more guts to ask her out. She agreed and it seemed like the two of them had really hit it off. What he did next, though, was unfathomable...

He grew too curious for his own good and began a little investigation. First, he Googled his potential love interest. When Google didn't pull up too many past secrets, he checked her MySpace and Facebook profiles. When her Facebook profile appeared so tame that it would bore a nun, he decided to venture forth into the darkest web reality of it all -- dun dun dun -- JUICYCAMPUS.COM!

Anyway, he perused the site for a bit and then made a startling discovery. His lady friend has a thread all of her own. Sure, her name came up under hottest girls on campus, but she was also under "[Her name]: Big Hoe Bag?" Mind you, there were at least 22 comments beneath it. My friend had no idea what to do. Suddenly, his ultimate woman transformed before his very eyes. She dwindled from sweet girl to corrupted slut. Being the shmuck that he is, he hastily texted her (yes, TEXTED her) and canceled their upcoming date. This girl was baffled by this strange twist of events...just as much as he was furious with himself for visiting that plagued website and unveiling her supposed reputation on campus.

I told him the truth; namely, that he is an idiot and that website is only gossip fodder (which, 99.9 percent of the time, holds no truth). I bet him that the commenters on that thread probably consisted of a scorned love interest writing from different IP address or catty, jealous girls. He nodded slowly, as though my words were knocking some sense into him.

Turns out he realized the errors of his harsh leap of judgment and begged for forgiveness. His crush decided to give him a second chance and he soon witnessed firsthand that she was indeed a beautiful girl, inside and out, and that polluted thread fails to give an appropriate indication of her unique character.

Is your campus on JuicyC ampus? Have you ever looked up a potential crush or current girlfriend/boyfriend on it? How did your discovery change your perception of that person?

I've never even heard of this website, but it sounds awful! Popularity and "clique"-y websites are just for bitter exes and bitter people. Gossip has got to be one of the cruellest inventions ever, which is why I choose not to believe anything I hear about another person until I either see the behavior described or hear it from them myself. I always see the good in people upon first meeting them, and I don't change that opinion unless they change my mind themselves through their own actions.

I think websites like these should be banned in some fashion, because all it does is promote low self-esteem and allow immaturity to reign free. I'm saddened to hear about such a website.

my campus is not on juicycampus thank God but my friends' campuses are and going on there is crazy!!! They have a list for everything and i mean i think half of the lists are WRONG but the things they say on there could damage a person! I don't think anyone in his or her right mind should take it seriously because it's full of jealous people and jerks who have nothing better to do than make up nasty rumors about their peers.

  • jzrocker@xanga

nope, this is the first I've heard of it. I just checked it out and it is soo dumb. Check it out if you have no life.

  • CrazyMai07@xanga

I go there to post a lot of spam on purpose so that when people go they're like "it's not worth going there because of all the spam."

It's a truly evil place. My campus is on there but only freshmen, greeks, and bitter people really use it. There's also a lot of spam too, not just from me but from other people who hate the idea of the site.
I never have looked up a person on there and never will - I feel like myspace/facebook are appropriate enough.

  • IfonEarth@xanga

Uh, wow. I've never heard of this site. It sounds stupid.

  • sWiMpRiNcEsS@xanga

i have no idea if my campus is on there...i highly doubt it. I heard it's sooooooo mean though. You'd think by the time people grow up they'd stop indulging in this kind of immaturity and, if they disliked someone, they'd either grow a pair and tell it to their face to squash the drama or just not talk about it and get over it. karma gets you bad and i hope everyone who writes about people on this site gets whats coming to them

  • Roadlesstaken@xanga

I remember hearing something about sites similar to that.  I just checked it out and it's seriously a crap site.

  • still_standing

I've never heard of that site & I'm glad. I think that just adds to another aspect that screws up relationships. If you're so curious to begin with, why don't you ask instead of nosying around? It'd save you a lot of time & trouble. It also helps you to understand a person in a more genuine way than behind his/her back.

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

    Noo, my campus isn't there.

  • mi_piaci

juicycampus is stupid. it bring things we did in middle school to college. do you really need to gossip that much? most of the stuff is untrue and mean...

  • Snow_Fae@xanga

    Oh my god.
My campus is and all it does is slander greek life. It's the most petty thing I've ever heard of. One girl from my sorority had her name as a title of a thread and there were so many posts. It's so lame how people will post anonymously! I can't believe that site or anyone who believes it.
The gossip is obnoxious. It's just a dumb site, I don't know why he would believe it.
But I'm gladded he saw his error.

  • ashleyannaka@xanga

I heard about that website about a year ago when there was something on the news about it. I can't remember what it was though, probably something terrible.

Anyway, I'd imagine that my campus is on there being that it is a HUGE school and one of the top ones in the Big 12 South. I've, obviously, never used it being that I'm only guessing that it's on there. I wouldn't be surprised though. I wouldn't trust it though. Gossip is dumb and gets people into trouble.

  • JessxMaxine@xanga
i wouldnt look up a crush. its a gossip site. why would he believe what others think of her?

maybe she goes on dates a lot but that doesnt mean she sexes up everyone she goes out with...but some girls/guys like to talk shit.

    Xo
  • youdo_ntknowme@xanga

I've never heard of that site, but it sounds so stupid.
Its like, does anyone really need more drama in their lives? Seriously, its just a gathering place for lies. He shouldn't have looked her up there in the first place. But its a good thing you helped him come to his senses.

  • poltron78@xanga

they need to do stuff for my college on that site.

  • lil_eric@xanga

i've heard of juicycampus.com but never visited. i think it does more harm than good. frankly, i'm surprised that some people can be so petty so as to come up with such a silly site like that.

  • MrsMok@xanga

Man, my school freaking created juicycampus. We own that shit. And it is beyond horrible. For us, mostly freshman use it. Trying to bolster their cred but they really end up looking like idiots. Oh, JC, good times. Good times.

  • ariella440@xanga

Never heard of it.  Sounds ridiculous.

  • mysteriousromantic@xanga

I must be old cuz I've never heard of it til now!

  • twosidedme@xanga

I understand wanting to know more about the person you're with/going to be with.  But isn't it kind of crazy to look them up like that?  And why would you view a person based upon views of other random individuals you do not know yourself?  Losers.

  • asphyxiating_tears@xanga

i've never heard of that site, but really, it sounds like something someone should only go on for fun. if i believed everything i've read... well jeez, i'd be nowhere.

  • sweet_sianara@xanga

yeah college of charleston is on juicy campus. i heard about it two months ago through my lab partner. hes all about it.
i dont go to the site though because i live at home and have no intentions of dating someone at the same school as me. im also about to graduate so itd seem kinda petty. itd be different if i actually had something to do with the school besides go to class and if i was younger and knew more people there.
    o well.

  • TheNotoriousGOD@xanga

LOL.  this is quite possibly the funniest site i've ever seen on the internet.  (i might say differently if my name was listed with negative remarks.)  both my grad and undergrad schools are on there...and yeah it seems that it's mostly populated by freshmen and greeks.

kind of reminds me of the salem witch trials, in some sense.

  • The_Prestigiator@xanga

@ashleyannaka@xanga - yea. it was on the news because a student from my alma mater thought it would be funny to write the following:

"I wonder if i could shut down the school … by saying I’m going to shoot as many people as i can in my second class tomorrow. I hope I get more than 50……….. For liability reasons and ip tracking I won’t leave it at that. But seriously, this site is rediculous, if it got big, and someone put the effort into writing a big long serious suicide note informing all readers that he would kill over 100 kids, they could shut down the school. Nice."

He's actually a nice kid but what he did was not amusing at all, especially after the Virginia Tech tragedy! A frequent visitor to the site saw it, didn't know what to do and in the end she reported it to Campus Safety because she thought it was better to be safe than sorry. I give her props because it takes courage to do that but that's what juicycampus is all about. Bad news.

  • starhyun7@xanga

I visited the site just to check it out, and it was pretty horrible.
