  • Friday Fun: What Are You Getting Your BF/GF for The Holidays?

There are only 41 shopping days until Christmas, and although that may seem like a lot, between Thanksgiving and general holidays related brouhaha, that time is gonna fly.

So, Datingish, what are you thinking about getting your BF/GF/crush for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever you celebrate? Do you guys set a limit on what you're going to spend or do you go all-out and buy whatever you want?

Also, do you tend to purchase something inside-jokey, useful or just for fun?

my BF and I have been together six months and are going to England for Christmas. I'm getting him stuff he needs, but won't buy himself, like a new wallet, or new boxers (i got him those for his birthday)

  • jeimusu@xanga

something that she can look at everyday and think of me while she's looking at it

  • pinkLex@xanga

I putting a spin on this....I am getting a boyfriend for Christmas!!  (That's the plan anyways!)

  • fluttertothestars@xanga

@pinkLex@xanga - I made the mistake of jokingly telling my mom that once... she gave my number out to about 8 guys when she was christmas shopping... be careful

  • maybmaybnot@xanga

well as of now I dont plan on getting anyone anything. but only time will tell

but to answer the last question, I have found that when shopping for guys especially, it is best to get them something that they are going to use. There is no use in getting them something that will collect dust. So, when shopping, know ur gf/bf/s.o./crush tastes well and shop for them.

Universal gift giving rule: don't shop for what You will like, shop for what They will like!

Ha...I don't even have one.  Looking at that as a positive though....at least I'm saving money!!

I know what I am planning or hoping for Christmas and that is a girlfriend.

Saying that if I did have a girlfriend and we had been going out for a long time and we know it would last I would buy her a car.

  • ayeHEARTyoo@xanga

an itouch! :) i hope he doesn't read this. haha.

  • Schristian@xanga

I'm not sure if me and my girlfriend will be ABLE to send each other gifts.

  • Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga

    Not a thing.
Unless I find something he could really use.
He's not a romantic, and I hate accepting gifts.
    Bring on the holidays!

  • la_faerie_joyeuse@xanga

I'm not getting him anything. I hate Christmas.

Aww, I am surprised to see how many hate Christmas and buying gifts...I long for someone to shop and buy lil things for!

  • GazeLe@xanga

I plan something expensive, despite the fact I have little to no money.
My boyfriends coming here for Christmas, and that's a present enough. Sooo expensive though.

  • Purple_Harlequin@xanga

I've only had my boyfriend for a week, but I've been considering getting him a curly wig for Christmas as a joke... One of the few compliments I've given him is that he'd look like Slash if he grew his hair and donned a pair of sunglasses.
Either that, or a really fucked-up stuffed rabbit. ( Again, an inside joke. ) I don't think we've been together long enough for the sentimental stuff, just yet.

  • joycemiles@xanga

hmmm im still thinking about what I want to get for my boyfriend.... his birthday's in december as well and he never says what he wants! :[

but he did talk about a starbucks mug cup so im getting that for his birthday.... but christmas is another. I don't know what I'm supposed to do becuse he never says anything when I ask. sigh.

  • IfonEarth@xanga

I dislike buying people gifts because I'm always so indecisive and uncertain about what the person would like. Besides, I don't have a boyfriend. :]

  • breakingthemold

This was always a hard one for me. I never could figure out what a guy would like. :-/ I'm not dating anyone right now, but do have a "significant interest" (long story) and am so excited cause I do already know what I'm going to give him! But he's also on datingish so I can't write it here.

  • Karamelqt@xanga

Well...I'm not broke ALL THE WAY but our anniversary was EXPENSIVE... however, I still wanna spend at least $200, so I'm thinking about this keyboard/sampler music thing from Guitar Center, and that 99 cologne...by Rocawear (it smells so great)!

  • SecretNeverTold@xanga

Last year my boyfriend (of only a month!) and I exchanged really nice gifts. He got me pj's from my favorite store, and a Moleskine notebook. That gift had an inside joke attached to it, actually, but it was really, really nice, and perfect for his little reporter girlfriend.

I got him two books--one part of an inside joke and one a lot more significant/meaningful. We teased about getting one another things we each hated. For example, he said one time he had gotten me an entire season of The OC on DVD; I responded with, "that's about as appropriate as the Buckeyes sweatshirt I got you" (he's a rabid Michigan Wolverines fan).

But yeah. Something sweet and something fun.

My boyfriend says that when he gets a house of his own, he wants to have a library in it. So, I'm getting him an anniversary, leather bound edition of one of his favorite books. He's sure to love it. It's thoughtful, a little expensive, but something that he will cherish for the rest of his life.

  • Super___Connected@xanga

We're been together for five months - it'll be six on Christmas. My boyfriend is a music student whose favorite composer is Beethoven. He stopped playing cello for a few years, but after hearing Beethoven's Egmont Overture, he was inspired to return to playing. So, I'm getting him a boxed set of Beethoven's symphonies conducted my Leonard Bernstein.

    I'm basically an epic girlfriend.

  • AnonymousBlonde@xanga

Meh, I don't know what I'm getting him yet, but a lot of it depends of whether or not he has any money to get me something.  I set the budget relatively low this year ($150 max) since he's having a lot of financial problems (just got through putting 6k into car repairs, not to mention the debt he's paying off and various bills he has to pay).  Trouble is that he still wants me to spend a lot of money on him =/.

If he can't or isn't willing to spend the money on me, I'm not going to spend it on him.  Eh, that sounds bitchy, but if you knew the entire situation, you'd understand.

  • Purrty_Pink@xanga

    idk he loves music

    he loves "cool" shirts

    he loves nike SB dunks

    and maybe jeans or hoodie

maybe a video game or 2

so i'll get him something out of those things...unless he asks for something.

  • Tina_Kushnu

I'm with AnonymousBlonde, except in the opposite situation.  I'm an out-of-state college student and supporting myself because my mother lost a lot of money last year.  My boyfriend, although 21 and out-of-state as well, is still being supported by his parents.  He does have a job, though, which means he has plenty of money to spend on a Christmas gift for me.  I really want to get him something nice, but the fact is I just don't know if I'll be able to afford it since half of the time I can't really afford my groceries or rent.  I usually try to go with something small and afordable but sentimental so that it means a lot but doesn't make me go bankrupt.  The trouble is thinking of a gift that fits this profile each anniversary, birthday, and Christmas.
