  • What's Your Best "How We Met" Story?

    Miss Penguin

I've always wanted a great "how we met" story. Army Guy and I had a pretty cute "how we met" story, though it wasn't that unique, really. We met through a friend. I was temping at her place of work at the time and he was in New York on a business trip of sorts for the weekend. He came in with her in the morning and we talked briefly then, after he left, he texted my friend that I was "adorable" and that she should invite me to see this play with them the next day. So she did and the rest is history. Other than that, all of my "how we met"s have been simple and boring - at school, at a bar, online, through friends.

One of my very close friends has one of the most unique "how we met" stories that I've ever heard. Unfortunately, she didn't actually end up with the guy, but I've always wanted them to end up together just so they could share that story. It goes like this:

They were at a coffee shop. She had left her laptop open with OkCupid up while she had gone to the bathroom or to get a drink. When she came back, he'd left her a note that said, "I'm not on OkCupid, but I am on Facebook." She found him on Facebook and they started messaging back and forth while they were both still in the coffee shop.  Finally, as it got later, she got up and talked to him face to face. They talked until the coffee shop closed around 1 a.m. (coffee shops in Minneapolis are often open as late as bars). Then they stood outside talking for a while, until suddenly he grabbed her out of nowhere and pulled her around the corner.

At first she wasn't sure what had happened, but that's when she heard the gunshots.     She was totally in a daze after that...as it turns out, a shooting had taken place just across the street. The victim was okay - he had been shot in the leg. The shooter had hopped in a car and disappeared, I believe. My friend and the guy stayed to talk to the police. Then, my friend was pretty shaken up, so the guy accompanied her home and they sat and talked until the wee hours of the morning.

I mean, how great of a "how we met" story is that? Not many people can answer "we witnessed a shooting together" when people ask them how they ended up together. I suppose it would've been less cool if someone had actually been more seriously wounded in the shooting. But thankfully they weren't, so I think it's a pretty awesome and unique "how we met" story...not to mention badass.

What's the best "how we met" story you've ever heard (or experienced)?

awh, that was cute. my how we met story with my boyfriend is boring. we met at school, we met in second grade because his younger sister was in my class, or something like that. it's a blur. =\

  • Super___Connected@xanga

Hahah this isn't a great story, but it's pretty bizarre.

I used to hang out at a coffee shop while I was in high school, and I had seen this guy there several times, hanging out with the baristas. One day while the barista was making drinks for my friend and I, Coffee Boy says, "Which one of you smells like a urinal cake?"

    Definitely a wtf moment.

He said later, after he had gotten my number, that he had to make sure I didn't smell like a urinal cake. I didn't, and the rest is history.

    Hahah

i think any story (except online ones because they're essentially all the same) is super cute. :)

  • lovepeacecalm@xanga

I guess my story could be considered cute. Or not. Who knows.

I met him at salsa dancing, but he came on too strong then and I was dating another person.

Then, while I was on a date with another person, I met him again and he flirted with me the whole night. He asked me out and the rest is history. If he hadn't had the gall to blatantly flirt with me in front of my date, we may have never gone out. (He swears he didn't realize I was on a date...)

Through an online message board. But I how I got on that message board was a long drawn out story. Stopping at a garage sale after much pleading from my parents. Striking up a conversation with a girl I had never seen before, her stopping me within seconds of driving away asking for my email, ended up hanging out at her house, showing me that "fateful" website. How he and I met in person too was an interesting long story.... but as long as it works out in the end right?

  • s_h_a_sha@xanga

i did not really end up witrh the guy but i think its a fairly good/weird story...

i meet this guy in a wake!!! my friends bf pass away so i was there to give her support.. and this guy is his cousin..lol.. well he found me through facebook and ask me out a month later.....

My husband and I met while both working at a Boy Scout Camp one summer.  The only reason I was there is because I randomly met my boss when I was dropping off the paperwork for my little brothers troop and she offered me a job..lol.  7 years later we're happily married with a baby on the way. Now our first kiss story, that's the great one!

My first real boyfriend, Tri Nguyen:

We were friends for three years starting in the 6th grade at Monroe Clark Middle school.. 12-year-olds, you know? We were still developing hormones and boys still had cooties!

I noticed him at lunch before and thought he was quite cute. Next thing you know, we had P.E. class together - him sitting beside me.. The teachers made us line up by our birthdays. Tri just happened to stand behind me..

    I was like..“Hey! when's ur birthday?”

he stares at me dumb founded a girl talked to him.. “February 19“

..and then i go "HA!!!! I BEAT YOU!!!! I'M ONE DAY OLDER, HAR HAR HAR!"

then that was the beginning of a crazy 3 year friendship.. lol, Then i gave him a hug before i left to vietnam..the day i left school & there was this magical feeling I’ve never felt in my life..He became so cute and lovable all of a sudden

.. then he asked me out in 7th grade ^_^ we lasted a month, but still, we became very good friends - he fell for me hard, waited for me at least a good..8 months ( I rejected him everyday ) because all these other boys were on my jock, too..so I felt bad & said NO to everyone ! But finally, we dated in 8th grade - 11th grade..we broke up because I moved to texas..and that's when i had to say goodbye..=[

our last encounter was at disneyland..hell, I HAVE THE VIDEO of us..dancing to "soulja boy" lol..on my xanga..yeah.

.and that was the beginning of my new life..that very night I left California for Texas..=[

Now.. that I've graduated EARLY..he and i has both moved on with our lives..we couldn't continue being friends nor best friends..because we lost our friendship over a relationship..KINDA sucks..but I love him. thank him forever..=] My best friend. hah

There you goOooo..it had more to it.

One:  Watching Star Trek.  Geeks for the win.
Another:  Watching Batman Begins.  Again for the win. Another:  Eating Thai food.

The first?  Watching The Perfect Score.  Lame movie.

All just sooooo romantic, I know.

  • decembriel@xanga

@Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga - That first meeting is awesome!  I would love to meet a guy watching Star Trek!

  • xxRAiN_onME_x@xanga

We didn't end up together, but became best friends.

Long story short, he was a store clerk and had walked me and my sister in law out to the car. My sister ran back in because she forgot something and so he was helping me with the groceries. Next thing I knew, he brought up random questions about where I lived and what school I went to. After that, we closed the back trunk and the key fell on the floor. I was going to pick it up but saw him reach for it so we played 'who was gonna reach for it' for a few good seconds, then he decided to just pick it up.

After that, he picked it up and as he raised his head, he hit mine's because I totally had forgotten about moving over.

The next thing I knew, I was suffering a major nose bleed with a hot guy's shirt over my nose. T^T

We hit it off from there, but remained friends.

Haha, interesting enough, I ended up dating his friend. :")

All though we didn't last our how we met story was kinda awkward not of the time we met but the people involved. I met B through his exgf, A, which happened to be a friend of mine somewhat at that time. GASP!!!

I volunteered to face paint kids during the Halloween at this supermarket and she stopped by with his boyfriend, J. Since I wasn't the only one volunteering I took the liberty of taking a break to hang out with them so I can somewhat see V, a guy I'm crushing over at that time. B was a cashier over there and A said hi to him and introduce us. We talked, and I told him that I recognize him from this class that i attended for a week. That's how we met.

How we started dating that's a different story, which is also weird.

  • cute_sushi@xanga

We were in class together, but didn't really talk to each other until the morning of a field trip. We got on the same bus and when we got off, we were following the tour guide when 5 minutes later we both lost the group-so we ended up spending the whole day together. We became friends after that, and he asked me out a few months later, on my birthday. :)

But we're not together anymore, haha.

I met my guy at a teaching conference in Missouri. Sounds fine, right? Well, think again.

Neither of us are teachers. I was with my cousin and he was with his mother (both of which are teachers). He lives in Texas, I live in Ohio.

I was sitting in the hallway, waiting for my cousin Steph to get out of a panel. She had promised me we'd go shopping afterwards.

He was across from me in the hallway- he was waiting for his mother to get out of the panel.

I was hungry, and there was a restaurant across the way, but I didn't want to eat alone. I see Ian, and i wave to him.

he looks around him, Looks at me and makes the "Who, me?" gesture. I shake me head yes and tell him to come over. he comes over, we go eat while our family members are in the panel. We exchanged phone numbers and email addresses, and I didn't think anything of him afterwards, although we had some instant chemistry and a great conversation over lunch.

About a year later, I was looking at random xangas and found one that had a beautiful poem posted on it. I comment it 'I love this', but have no idea who's xanga it is. He instant messages me, thanking me and asking me about myself. we talk for two weeks until he asks if I have a myspace.

I give him the link and he goes "I think I know you.." from my pictures. I look at his myspace and was amazed because, lo and behold, this is the guy I had met at the conference!

We finally admitted we liked each other about a month later, and have been together ever since- which is a year and 5 months on Saturday.

Long distance relationships are hard, but it's worked out well! :)

I... haven't... yet ended up with my best how we met story, but I liked it....
I went to a concert with a couple friends. We stole a ride with one of my friend's brother who was meeting some other friends... wow that's a lot of friends.... at the concert. We got there and they were pretty cool. I got talking to one and at somepoint in the conversation he told me if I guessed how much he weighed withing 10 lbs he'd buy me dinner... so I guessed. Oddly enough I guessed right on. So he bought me dinner... and that was that. Didn't get my number; nothing.

A few weeks later I was having a tough time... some other guy was being a jerk. I'm LDS and I like to go to our Temple grounds and think when I'm having a tough time. Well I got there and there was some guy in my spot. I waited and when he finally started leaving I started walking over there. I sat down on my bench and he comes up behind me and says "hey." I was worried he was going to be like "why are you crying" but instead he said "didn't I buy you dinner a while ago?"
Lo and behold it was the guy from the concert! He got my number... we hung out a few times, lost contact, met up again a few months later then he got back with his ex...

    the first part's good though

I met my boyfriend freshman year in biology class. Our lab partners both were absent on the day we were supposed to dissect the squid, so we were put together. Apparently, we had both decided on our own that the other was too weird to work with so we just dissected our own squid. We eventually became good friends and at the end of senior year, we started going out, and have been for a year and a half now.

Not the most exciting story in the world, but I think it's alright ;D. I love a good "How We Met" story.

  • depp_and_meaningful@xanga

i don't know if this is the best, but i'm going to share anyways. he and i were freshies in high school, and we were going to our first military ball in the winter [we were in jrotc, don't hate!], but we were both without dates, and neither of us wanted to walk through the receiving line alone, so a mutual friend [more his best friend] introduced us the week of the dance, and we went together. he gave me my first dance [x and the receiving line required walking through a saber arch and introducing yourself and your date to the high up people in the chain of command, and while we were in line waiting to go through the receiving line, he kept asking me how to pronounce my last name so he wouldn't screw it up. i thought it was cute. we became friends first, talked a lot during the summer, and by fall, we were going out. [postscript: he's still my boyfriend, four years under the belt, woot!]

I have a good one with my ex.  We lived in the same apartment building (but never met previously), there was a fire alarm, so we all had to evacuate.  Outside of the building, I ran into him, and we started talking, which led to facebooking, hanging out, and eventually dating.  Always got a lot of "awws" for this story.

  • cazziii_fire@xanga

wow...thats a cool how we met story. (:

i met my bf by randomly walking up to him saying hi :D i was going through an overload of socializing mode.

My college boyfriend and I met through a common friend - his classmate and my roommate. The first day I saw him and had short conversation with him was the day I realized I was gonna fall for him and I did. Also, I had to borrow an English Book from him so I have an excuse to get his number. We were together for almost 2 years and we could say that an english book brought us together. :))

  • still_standing

Are you ready for this? haha. My boyfriend & I have a GREAT one & I'm not sure how to go about telling his parents this.. I've only recently managed to tell my parents this story as I laughed away & my mom looked at me with a look that said "You did what?!" [I think my dad was cool with it.. I forget.] Keep in mind I grew up in an Asian home where drinking is frowned upon.

So my boyfriend & I were introduced to each other through mutual friends but we didn't really keep in contact after that. I mean, I had his number in my phone 'cause that's what you say to people you meet the first semester of college since you're meeting people & you figure you'll see them again & want to talk to them.. We talked maybe once after but we didn't really realize it was each other 'cause he had a question which needed a translation of some Chinese that I was unable to get for him.

Then several months later [by now it was the second semester of college], I had just crossed into my sorority & was celebrating with my sisters. Unfortunately for me, it was my first big experience with alcohol & I don't know what possessed me but I decided that I could handle 5 shots & half a cup of beer. [Keep in mind that I'm a small girl.. I'm less than 100 pounds.] Now, I knew the importance of making sure you don't drink on an empty stomach & so I was eating take-out in between shots. Needless to say, that soon caught up with me & I proceeded to pass out & wake up half an hour later & it all came out.. in my shoes.. not to mention all over someone's carpet.. >.<

I'm so grateful for my sisters 'cause they rushed to my side & helped me clean up & cleaned me up while I washed my shoes out.. Then as everyone else was cleaning the apartment, I decided it was a good time to call people. [You could say I was drunk.. :P] So I went through my phonebook in reverse alphabetical order 'cause I thought it'd be a nice way to look at things.. I stumbled across my now-boyfriend's name & I thought it'd be a good idea to call this guy I've barely talked to just to say hi. So I did just that. I think I must have been pretty drunk 'cause I proceeded to cry into the phone & tell him I puked into my shoes & I had no shoes to go home in.. My boyfriend being the nice guy he was, told me not to leave & asked for the address [which I didn't know so all I could give him was the general area] & said he'd be there in half an hour. Did I mention that I went to school in Boston where public transportation shuts down past 1am? So I told him not to come 'cause I'd feel bad & also 'cause I was stupid that night & didn't bring any cash with me [I got a ride from my pledge sister & knew that's how I was gonna get home] except my boyfriend wouldn't hear of it & hung up.

Half an hour later, I get a call from him saying he was in the area & asked me to describe the building I was in as I managed to thank my sisters for taking care of me but I wasn't feeling well & really wanted to go home. They knew I'm a pretty trustworthy girl so they took my word for it that the friend who was picking me up was a good guy. [He was & has always been.] I managed to walk out of the building in my socks onto the wet pavement with my sneakers in one hand & my phone to my ear. After 5 minutes of him running back & forth, he showed up at the apartment building & whips out a pair of slippers from his bag. They were his shower slippers. Oh, I felt so bad but I was soo touched that I put them on. He proceeded to offer me some soda & sour gummy worms before hailing a cab to take us back.

We lived in different dorms but he had the cab drop us off at my dorm where he walked me up to the security booth & had me sit outside until I sobered up. While we were sitting, we got to talking & eating the gummy worms & just had a great time. Ironically, one of the things he mentioned was how he believed guys & girls couldn't be friends without feelings getting in the way & I disagreed. [Funny how things played out a year later.. :P] It only took me half an hour to sober up & that's when we ran into friends of ours who helped get him into our dorm so that he didn't need to sit outside & we went our separate ways since I was too exhausted to stay awake.

So essentially, he picked me. My boyfriend likes to tell this story to our friends just to get a kick out of it. It's quite embarrassing on my part but I love it 'cause it's so original.

I never got drunk after that. Honest. :)
Oh, a funny afterstory: After we had enough of the gummy worms, he put them away into the pocket of his sweatshirt. He ended up forgetting about them when doing laundry 2 weeks later & washed & dried his clothes with the gummy worms in his pocket. His clothes ended up turning BRIGHT sour gummy worm colored causing him to flip & IM me & make me LOL until I nearly cried. I recommended that he rewash his clothes & if they didn't come out, I'd owe him a new wardrobe. :( Luckily for me, they came out fine. :D

I hope you enjoyed that. This story brings a smile to my face every time.. It's been a while since I last heard it myself. :) For those wondering, we've been together for 2 years & 2 months now.. & have since graduated from college. :)

I have a kinda creepy one. I thought it was cute but my friends all think it was creepy. haha

My first boyfriend, call him R, was a new kid at my high school.  (Btw, this was long ago. Over 5 years ago) I had seen him before and I remembered thinking "Hot damn! He's cute!"  Back then we use to have friendster. Remember that? Yeah, some of you don't because you were babies when it was popular.  My friend Megan and I were sending messages back and forth on friendster and simultaneously she was sending messages with R.  I guess she and him were talking about relationships and she mentioned me so he messaged me that same night.  We found out that he lives two blocks from me.  This crazy guy then suggests that we go out and meet each other. At 12 in the morning.  I don't know what I was on... I would never do that now.  I of course objected and then he said "I'm leaving, if you're not there I'm going to be disappointed." and so he signs off aim.  I freaking panicked.  Called my friend Whit who also knew him.  I was just excited and scared... but I went.  It was crazy, I met him in the middle of my neighborhood, we walked back to my house, sat in front of my driveway and talked till 3 in the morning.
Of course I would never do that again, I could've been raped or hurt or something.  Naive and stupid I was.  Haha... the creepy part of it was that he use to watch me through the windows of my house...sitting outside and watching.  Yeah I guess thats weird!

anyways, my boyfriend now... the how we met story isn't interesting.  We dormed together and we were friends.  haha
  • TheSpaceBass@xanga

Me and my first love met at a game night. I was sitting by myself and to coax me out of my shell he asked me "Wanna see a magic trick?"

So he dumps a deck of cards on the floor, spreads them around and says "This will be the Ace of Spades!"

He turns over the card and it WAS THE ACE OF SPADES. We both screamed and shot back away from the pile of cards like there was some sort of explosion.

From that point on we were best friends and my first/only true love at this time of my life.

It was... magical! (jaja, yes, pun intended)
