HIMYM And The Bro Code
As an avid fan of How I Met Your Mother (which everyone should be, btw), the Bro Code is something oft-discussed on the show. I don't consider myself to be a part of the bro culture and I have never even said the word outside of HIMYM discussions, so I was wondering just how true to life the show was when it comes to the Bro Code. Ted, Marshall and specifically Barney uphold the Bro Code on the show and they take it more seriously than the actual law...well, maybe just Barney for the last part.
Some examples of the Bro Code for you HIMYM novices:
- Two bros will not lock eyes during a devil's three-way.
- A bro will always say yes.
- A bro will supply another bro with whatever he needs during a date.
- A bro's mom is off-limits at all times, unless she's a step-mother, she initiates it and is wearing leopard print.
- No sex with a bro's ex.
I know HIMYM is a show, and thus hyperbolic, but there must be some truth to the Bro Code. Are these rules practiced in the real world?
- Two bros will not lock eyes during a devil's three-way.

I have heard some of my male friends talking about the bro code and that exes and mom's are off limits as are sisters. Maybe that's why my brother's friends ASKED him permission before they asked me out...okay only 3 did but they all asked if it was okay with him.
LOL OH YEA the bro code really does exist to a certain extent. Depending on how each "bros" sets it. ahaha and I'm sure the whole "DICKS OVER CHICKS" is one of "THE RULE" for bros. AND i've seen many girls who have "CHICKS OVER DICKS" rule too. ;D same rules apply lol
pssh, not locking eyes? can't pull off the high five if you're not looking at one another
Firstly, HIMYM is awesome!
Secondly, I don't have much experience of a Bro Code. Though when I once made a move on my brother's friend, he said he wouldn't be with me because my brother was his friend. But also that he wasn't interested, so I don't know if the Code was the important part.
I kind of believe all (or most) is fair in love. If you happen to fall in love with your friend's ex, what are you supposed to do? Though I would never do anything to risk my closest friendships.
HIMYM IS AWESOME. Hahaha seriously
@phuck_diz_shiz@xanga - Then smack him stupid. He broke it, so he be stupid.
No bro codes for me.
Your insecurities are yours, and you can keep em'!
There ARE bro principles though.
The step-mom rule = legit.
Never touch your bro's sister. Ever. Cousins are legit.
The ex rule = illegit. Who you're with is your choice. If you're not with someone, you've let go your rights over those types of decisions. She's not property; get over it.
The show is amazing :)
and i think everyone kind of has a code with their girls or guys.
Me and my girls have always said "Chicks before Dicks" and we keep to that so were all close and guys can't break are bonds that we share, which is awesome, because you see this situation of girls fighting their friends over guys all the time which is pathetic and very sad, but still it happens often.
i'd fuck anybody's mom if i wanted to. i dont give a fuck if we're friends. it's not like you can fuck her.. so, i'll let ya know how it goes!
and i think this whole list is retarded and just gives guys an excuse to be more retarded.
i believe that if you fall in LOVE with somebody, just because they dated your friend, may not be a good enough reason to overpower your feelings. of course, i believe you should talk to the friend either way, just to be sure. and if they still have feeling for that person, deal with the drama however you feel is bestttt.
and guys always say yes... ALWAYS. so, this is just stating a fact.
and you should have your own supplies for your own damn dates. this whole bro code is a cop out!!!!
i am now writing the girl code on my blog haha!
