News: CosmoGIRL! Closes

Miss Double Shot
December's issue of CosmoGIRL! magazine will be the last for the teen version of Cosmopolitan. Circulation and ad pages were down . . . it's a tough time to be in print right now.
I already wrote a mini-rant about Cosmo and how I don't like the format and puns . . . but I think it'll stick around a while. Teen magazines, though, not so much.
I think girls today aren't particularly inclined to trust a magazine for romantic advice - I wouldn't want to hear what an "expert" has to say about my relationships; I'd rather ask my friends.
What is the best/worst dating advice you've received from a magazine? Where will you go now for advice?

Worst advice seems to be about how you should just feel comfortable in your body and be happy with your image yet you rarely ever show models that aren't skinny.
hahah I've never ever paid attention to dating advices from a magazine when my lady friends mention it to me about guys should do so and so. I like to trust my instinct.
I never read those magazines. Period. I dislike the images it gives off to young girls. Sex & being skinny.
It won't be a loss for me. I rely on my instinct as well as those from my closest friends. :)
I can't remember anything specific, but most of the flirting advice seems really corny to me. Like go up to the guy, say some cheesy line (which varies, depending on the author), leave, and hope he follows you. Most of it sounds like it would only work if you're super outgoing, and I'm a shy girl. Also, I like shy guys, and most of the guys I like would probably see right through the stupid flirting moves in there.
lol uhmm magazine advices... they make me laugh thats about it.
they are all so cliche.. something you would see in "not another teen movie" or something like that
i love cosmo, can't live without it. seriously, why would you want advice from a woman, about men??? just go ask your guy friends.
I'm just tired of the whole teen "Oh my gosh, does he like me?!!?!?!" issue.
Those bubble gum teen pop that deal with relationships don't cut it. At all. I would never go to those magazines to solve my relationships issues. I think the best advice comes from your own heart. Other people don't really know how you feel inside; only you do. People need to rationalize things themselves and do what's best for them instead of consulting those teen magazines. They're not the best things for teens to read, anyway. They're not stimulating at all.
cosmo girl folded is because of strong competition in the teen magazine market. Plus nowadays, girls would just go straight to Cosmo the adult version, right? let's face it, young girls today are not that innocent anymore.
I especially love their questionnaires that have three choices that are probably only true in a "perfect" girl's life and with that they predict what how you should change your life.
the only magazine I read is Vanity Fair and science based prints. So the worst advice I got was to read The Devil Wears Prada and how to focus on and see mars without a telescope and trust me both tasks were not easy.
blah, thats my fave mag.
its oh - so - fabb !
Haha, Datishish's put Cosmogirl out of business! lol I'm coming here for relationship and dating advice. Who needs magazines when you've got your friendly neighborhood xanga at your disposal? lol
What about people who have recently sunscribed and already paid? Will they get their money back? I will be pretty pissed off if I don't. I'll show them what a REAL teenage girl can do when she gets cheated out of her money.
i'm sad that cosmo girl! died. i've subscribed to that magazine since i was 12.
@pianokeysKTbug@xanga - the subscribers of cosmo girl! will instead receive monthly issues of seventeen until their subscription runs out.
(when ym died, i received teen vogue until my subscription ran out.)
Worst dating advice in magazin: never ever ask your man what is he thinking about right now. Oh god...
I never really read CosmoGirl! but I did read Seventeen for a while there. Seventeen had started to cover real issues and had a few interesting stories, but then the former editor-in-chief of CosmoGirl! took it over, so it's pretty much the same magazine...
@sophia@xanga - I already signed up for Seventeen also though a combo deal.
really?? i didn't even know that they were doing terribly! aw man i'm so sad that that's the case. even though i'm way passed the age magazines like cosmogirl and seventeen are geared towards, i still find the material entertaining and helpful (at times) like the make your own clothes articles and life advice articles. i did take some of their advice, like the kissing pages lol ;]
I actually loved CosmoGirl!
I don't think they ever gave bad advice. All their stuff seemed to be logical. Awww
i agree, the dating advice in magazines are silly and sometimes unrealistic. i like to read cosmogirl and seventeen though because they have great stories about young girls who've done something to make a difference. pretty much, i read them for the real life stories sent in by readers. the romance stuff is mostly for laughs.
I actually remember the 1st issue of CosmoGirl!.
Cover was yellow, and Melissa Joan Hart was on the cover.
That was back in '99, when I was 16.
God.
I feel old.
CosmoGirl! is actually better than some of the crap that Seventeen prints these days.
Though I used to buy Seventeen all the time, 'cause it was cheaper here (South East Asia).
This makes me a little sad, I worshipped those magazines when I was younger. I mean, I agree, it isn't a good source for just about anything; however it was a fun way to pass the time with the embarrassing stories and quizzes.
@eternal_dreaming@xanga -
Agree with what you said
Its just a buncha silly teenagers asking about sex
When they're only 13 ? 15 ?
Disgusting --
Or those STUPID "MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENTS"
I just cant stand it....why are some people so dam stupid
Example: stuffing waterballoon in shirt, trying to impress a CRUSH - and the waterballoons POPPED**, Crush saw that happening - i was mortified etc
I never liked cosmo girl. It was a waste of time and I think they were trying to cater an adult magazine to an audience that was too young. Besides, most of the so called "experts" on men were women...not too credible, if you ask me.
