This is a guest post submitted by porcelainx27.Horoscopes are such a load of rubbish. I mean, honestly, the profiling
can be quite accurate, and I often find striking similarities in
personality with people who share the same sun sign. However,
weekly/monthly predictions? A load of rubbish.
They always seem to write things that are very vague and that could
apply to anyone at any time in their life. Half of the time, the things
they write make no sense whatsoever. And horoscope compatability? Don't
even go there.
As an Aquarius (well, I was "born on the cusp", so
apparently am also partially a Capricorn), I am supposed to be cold,
unemotional, afraid of commitment in a relationship and basically a
"free spirit". This could not be more wrong.
I am supposed to be pushed
away by clinginess, sensitivity and ownership - and in fact, I
absolutely love it. I'm supposed to have a super-active social life,
and not a lot of time for my partner. Actually, I prefer spending time
with my partner. He's my number one priority, and I know this is bad,
but I would blow anyone off to see him instead.
My boyfriend is a Cancer, and we are supposed to be a match made in hell. Even in Chinese Astrology, he is an Ox and I am a Horse, and
again, supposed to be a match made in hell. He has often told me in the
past that he has never felt a connection with a person as strong as the
one we have, and has never been so in love with anybody, and I feel
exactly the same. I love the fact that he's emotionally needy and
sensitive. I love the fact that he's clingy and openly expresses his
emotions. I love the excessive amount of cuddling and the attention I
get from him.
It really puzzles me; it's bizarre. We're supposed to just not work
at all, yet I love everything about his emotional-ness, (that's not a
word, I know). In fact, I think I'm damn lucky to have someone who pays
me so much loving attention, and is loyal, kind and caring!
My boyfriend and I
have such a strong bond, yet, according to the "stars", we're just not
meant to be and we should hate each other? I mean, what?
Anybody else care to share their "astrological" experiences in love?

My boyfriend and I are actually supposed to be really compatible. He's a pisces and I'm a virgo. So I guess in our case "the stars" had it right, or something, because I can't imagine not being with him. I love him so much.
My horoscope says I'm going to be insightful today, and will be able to approach a problem better.
I don't feel that happening, but we'll see.
I love this .. .. and am an Aquarius too .. and my girl friend is Cancer. our match is definitly one in a million... am very satisfied with your post. THANKS A MILLION !!
Mine (Taurus) sounds like the summary for a Gossip Girl episode.
"Chances are that you’re back to work or school today, but duties or
assignments will be the last thing on your mind! A chance to catch up
on all the latest gossip may be hard to resist, but bare in mind you
may hear something that isn’t true or has been somewhat distorted! you
know you love me, xoxo gossip girl."
it said things wouldn't work between R and I ... and it was right.
the Horse describes me accurately.
i don't believe in horoscopes, but that description of an aquarius is freakishly true about me. i used to have a libra boyfriend - the best match with aquarius - but it didn't work because of the aquarius characteristics i have (i.e. push away clinginess, sensitivity).
"The obstructive lunar aspect is likely to put you a little on
edge today, and anyone who seems to be cramping your style or
invading your space is likely to find out to their cost! Try to
bear in mind that it’s the planets that are causing this
edginess and not a specific individual!"
I'm a Leo. None of this makes sense to me today. I feel totally opposite of this. This is one time my horoscope has been way, way off.
There is a lot more to astrology than sun sign horoscopes, which are -as you describe- general and not always accurate. One must study astrology in depth, or go to see an astrologer who can explain the traits of your entire birth chart in order to get a specific, more accurate picture.
Horoscopes should be guidance at best. I don't read them in newspapers or magazines, instead finding better resources online.
If you want a better weekly horoscope that will actually resonate with you, read Astrobarry.com.
For a great monthly one, go read Writings in the Sky.
For a free birth chart, go to Astro.com. Once you have the chart, you can google the pieces and see how they do.

It's not that horoscopes are stupid or inaccurate, but more that, if you want something more accurate, you have to take into account the differences in the signs (time/place of birth, etc.)
That's why I personally had my free chart made, figured out how to read it (it only looks complicated), and googled the connections (like I have Venus in Mars, which automatically makes loving me combative, cos I want to fight).
Take what works, discard what doesn't, but only if it really doesn't fit, not if you're in denial. If nothing else, have someone else read the desciptors to you and see if they think they're accurate.
I read somewhere that way back when the astrological signs and meanings were first invented, the stars were in completely different places in the sky due to the movement of the galaxy or something (I'm not an astronomer, so I don't know exactly...) so they shouldn't even apply to us now. So, like you said -- a bunch of rubbish.
haha I currently like a scorpio (I'm taurus)...horoscopes say it'll have the highest of highs and lowest of lows...so far its been quite a rollercoaster so its right on haha.
Sometimes, I truely feel like the horoscopes are right, other times, I feel like my 5 year old brother made them up.
It's all about you, and what you believe.
My horoscope basically says I'm getting pissed off today, but it's because the planets are unaligned, not because of one specific person. I hope their right about the planets, I'd hate to bitch someone out.
From my last relationship, astrology had us correct. I would be the one who would want to settle down and after time would get clingy (correct) while he would be the one who would start out clingy and later on would get bored with me and point his arrow (he was a sagittarius) at a different direction (also correct)
Here's the thing with astrology, it is much much more complicated than what anybody thinks. You have to pin point where all the planets and stars are at the same exact time you were born. I also have heard that your rising sign (where the Earth was when you were born) is much more important than you're sun sign (where the sun was when you were born and the astrological sign we all go by). The universe is vast so no one would get a straight answer of who they are astrologically. Also, what degrees of the such sign plays a role of how much you are alike. Can you feel a headache? I can.
Horoscope on the other hand are crap. As you said, it is way too generalized and the things that they advise happens to almost everyone at one point in time. Also, I believe that they go by pure astrological signs. No one is just 100% Taurus, Pisces, Aquarius, and what not.
i'm an aquarius and i've only been attracted to geminis and the relationships always ended badly...which is exactly what the chinese zodiac says for me, a horse. all the characteristics of a horse/aquarius make sense to me.
usually horoscopes say that my bf and I are really compatible (I'm a Sagittarius, he's a Leo) and that our relationship is full of passion and energy... which is kind of true since we have way more ups than downs, and we're still not sick of each other after 3 years together
As for my horoscope today, it says that i'll be having a mixed day and i'll be "blowing hot and cold throughout". *scratches head in confusion*
According to the stars, my boyfriend, who's a Capricorn, and I (am a Gemini) are a match-made in hell but we have a very good connection and attraction towards each other.
As my boyfriend says, "I see horoscopes more as a story than a true fortune telling kind of thing."
I just experienced the Leo/scorpio pair... oh my... that's passion. The guy I liked who is a scorpio and I made out the other night at a party and we had never kissed before but we ended up being all over each other. Untill they had to shove us into a bedroom because we were too gross.
So, what can I say about Leo Woman/Scorpio Man?
Hot. But may not be good long-term.
Someone that I've talked to mentioned how being a scorpion could mean trouble for her and her partner. They get along well, and she's started to trust more on herself and intuition, not horoscopes. Horoscopes sometimes have some true to them, but I think you should follow your gut feelings.

They say that it's more accurate to gauge a relationship by the compatibility of Venus and Mars signs instead of Sun signs. If you input your birthday and time of birth they'll come up with a natal chart to tell you what signs your planets are in. Best part is that it's free! It could be rubbish for all I know but it's a lot of fun!
what I've come to see from horoscopes is that the compatibility of signs is almost never consistent. I like to read horoscopes a lot because I do find them interesting and there have been different times when it would say im most compatible with an aquarius, and then another would say aries, another taurus (im a libra). I do find it interesting though that in each one, Aries is my opposite sign and my current boyfriend is an Aries. It is true that we are opposite in so many ways and the same in so many ways. But in one it said we were "a match made in heaven", and in another "in hell". So, while its interesting, I guess there is no way to be a hundred percent accurate.
Day-to-day horoscopes, while entertaining, are generally just junk.
I do, however, find that I embody MANY strong Aries traits, and I am smack in the middle of the "timeframe" for being an Aries. That being said, I do tend to find myself in "instant connection/attraction" situations with Leos, Saggitariuses, and Geminis, but end up in relationships with much less...oh, exuberant people (I've dated lots of Cancers and Capricorns).
I think there is sometihng to be said for astrological compatibility, but it's certainly not a "deal breaker" if we're not "supposed" to work together. If we work, great! Who cares what the "stars" say? As far as I'm concerned, it's really more for entertainment than anything.
You can never take horoscopes seriously, but for the sake of this topic, I'll tell you that I'm a Capricorn and my ex is a Sagittarius. According to astrology, we are complete opposites on the surface, but share similar philosophies in life. That's actually somewhat true in reality, but I think that's purely because we each had completely different upbringings.
I actually don't believe in horoscopes to be taken as truth; though I agree with you that there are similarities with people who share the same scope.
I think though-- at least in the Chinese horoscope, there are about 600+ possible personalities according to the stars. All of these depend on your Cycle element, your year animal, your inner animal and your secret animal. Each of them supposedly play a roll in your persona.
But, it's not lucrative for a tabloid or fun paper to do an individual horoscope for 600+ people, so they distill it down to the commonly known12 year animals; the ones that cover a rather general summation of the individual. Horoscopes in the paper are what I'd consider a load of rubbish, it's just nuts to have 1/12 th of the world having the same-star day, getting lucky with money on the same predicted loto numbers or breaking up with their bad-star boyfriend. It's just a filler to put in the paper.
I suppose what I'm saying is that there is too little insight in a horoscope you'd pick up from the super market; it's like saying you know a novel by reading the back cover. I don't think at all though, that your day should be planned around page 14 of the Purdue University News Paper, but it doesn't stop people from being entertained.
