  • I Sent Her Flowers - Is It Too Soon? CHECK EDIT!

This is a guest blog submitted by sleepyhead.

Lately I've been spending a decent amount of my time talking to a girl I met at a friend's house party.  We've met up a few times and seem to get along great.  She's a senior at a school about a 100 miles away from where I live.  I don't mind the distance.  It gives me time to work, go to the gym, hang out with my friends.

During one of our conversations earlier this week, she mentioned she'd never received a package through the mail during college. I found that very odd - my friends and family sent me stuff all the time when I was in school. I told myself this would be a perfect time to surprise her with something through the mail. Luckily for me, she had her school mailbox and address posted on her Facebook profile, so that solved the biggest hurdle.  If I had asked for her address, she would know what I was up to.

So I decided I would have some flowers and a small teddy bear sent to her school (she should be getting them in a few hours, by the way). I asked Miss Double Shot this morning if this gesture was too much. She said it was "peachy," saying that I'd earn brownie points because I took the time to listen to what she had to say and surprised her.

I know we haven't been talking for long and I do like her, but was sending her flowers to her school after knowing her for only two weeks a little too much or a "peachy" gesture?

Have you ever sent flowers to someone or had them sent to you?

Edit: She got 'em and loved 'em.

It shows you are interested and it will make her feel better.  I would only be worried if you weren't interested, but since you are its fine.  The rest is really up to her.  Friends don't really do that unless its a special occasion like a birthday or something and even so, its a stretch.  She will like them and kudos.

Every girl loves to get flowers, even if she's never gotten them before- that's just common knowledge.

I think she'll be especially pleased because you did it because of something she said, which proves A) you listened and B) you wre thinking of her even after you weren't near her anymore.

    It's just perfect!

I think it's sweet, just definitely explain how you got her address  :)

@wuwu@xanga - well she had it on facebook and i copied it and told her she shouldn't do that. She took it down 5 minutes later. Slick! lol

It would be kinda sad to have someone sends you flowers.  It should depend on the guy's affection than to ask for some lol.  One of my exes sent roses to my house with a lovely note and gave roses at any random occasion =).  I still keep the notes .

I believe sending flowers is a great way to show your interest in the girl. I agree with everyone else that if she believes it is a sweet gesture she will be flattered and should continue to keep in contact with you. If she takes it as being creep, she will most likely pull away and avoid you. It really depends on the person and if she likes you. Don't feel horrible if she doesn't get back with you and starts to pull away. It just means she isn't the girl for you!

    Good luck!

It depends on what she perceives to be "too soon." As for me, well let's see... personally I do think it's a tad bit soon. Just a bit. If you two get along as well as you say, then it's good enough timing and an incredibly GREAT gesture [as most commenters above me have mentioned]. It's always nice to receive flowers.

And yes, I've had them sent to me. Several times... but only one of those times was most significant.

It was Valentine's Day. I was 15? I can't even remember. All I remember is my uncle [or aunt] telling me something was outside for me at the door. To my surprise a man handed over a HUGE bouquet of red roses. I quickly looked across the street to see a few guys on skateboards watching, then I walked inside with a flushed face. Apparently the neighbor across the street sent it to me. He was a friend, and was head over heels for me despite the fact I didn't feel the same.

While I had known that, receiving such a gift left a huge impression on me.

    it could go either way.
    you getting major cookie points...
    orrr...
you coming off as a creeepy stalker.
but if this girl seems to like you, then that shouldn't be a problem.
i hope everything works out well! :)

ps. guys should pay more attention to what the girls are saying... lately there are NO thoughtful men in this world, i swear. doing little sweet stuff racks up toonss of cookie points in the end. :D

i have had them sent to me, and I love it! It's such a nice gesture on your part! She will feel really special and will be excited to show off the flowers to her school friends.
    Good move

I give you an A for awesomely sweet.

  • dandymandie@xanga

Incredibly sweet.  Especially since you WANT to do it because you're into her.  Otherwise it would be rushing it.
    A+ for you!!!

  • eykimura@xanga

I had crazy flowers sent to my work.  I felt like he was doing it to claim his stake on me at work.

    they were lovely.

  • rosiecotton19@xanga

well, what does it matter now?  you've already sent them!  since there's nothing you can do about it now, don't stress and just deal with what happens.  personally, flowers are awesome but a teddy bear?  i hate it when ppl give me stuffed animals.  i'm not 4!

  • SleepyHead

@rosiecotton19@xanga - lol you're right, but it was thrown in with the flowers. So i figured what the hell

  • eyesochinky@xanga

that's uber sweet and not creepy imo!  if she doesnt appreciate it... then stop.  haha

  • XxNoLifeKing_AlucardxX@xanga

I think it will give you brownie points, but it doesn't have to be a matter of "showing too much interest". Sometimes, I do that to my friends because I feel like they need it or it's just a nice gesture. I don't think about being too quick because those aren't my intentions. I think that it will show you were being attentive. Just don't shower her with a gazillion gifts ALL the time.

  • tIl_Da_LaSt_TeArDrOp_FaLlS@xanga

flowers are super cute :] definitely bonus points for u! she'll be happy :] and it's not too soon. flowers are for every occasions! i just told my bf yesterday too.. i was like how come i never get flowers anymore ;P so yup :] hope it goes well!

  • xwolfae@xanga

if she leaves her address on facebook, she has no reason to find this creepy....

as long as she likes you, i think she'll be amazed by the thought and effort you put in to making her feel special. :)

  • littlelui250@xanga

if she's interested, then you definitely score brownie points . . . if she wasn't interested, then that may turn her off . . . . . but life is about taking chances, right?  wish you the best of luck!

  • forgottenrevelations@xanga

    Regarding the edit:  Awesome, mate.

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

No one has ever sent flowers to me.  I'm not really a flower-type girl. =P

  • wewong@xanga

i think the flowers and bear is an overkill, for someone you barely "know".  if you guys are dating, then it would be awesome.  i think at this point you might want to send her something "neutral" just to say "since you've never received a package at school, here you go".  at the same time, you can test out the waters and see her reaction, then act accordingly.

  • porcelainx27@xanga

I think it depends on the person. She may find it horribly creepy, or she might think it was a really sweet gesture.

It's certainly not too soon, but if she doesn't like you at all then yeah, she won't like it.

    I know I would like it :)
