This is a guest blog submitted by sleepyhead.I was invited to a baby shower, but I was pretty sure guys didn't usually go to events like that. After repeatedly declining, my friend's boyfriend
convinced me to go. His girlfriend had forced him to go, too, and he wanted another
guy there in case it got boring and we wanted to leave.
He told me
there'd be people from high school we hadn’t seen in a while and drinks. I
wasn't thrilled about drinking in the afternoon, nor did I want to see
people from high school I hadn't spoken to in years. But I went anyway,
looking to leave after an hour or so.
The
shower was exactly what I had expected: a lot of women oohing and
ahhing at the size of my friend’s stomach. They were all chatting, reminiscing about old times and talking about their boyfriends and
school.
I was dreading having to go to the shower, but I had a good time, surprisingly enough. I got to meet the mom-to-be's family members, and I didn’t mind seeing some old faces. It was
kind of refreshing to see where they all were and how they were doing
post high school.
The baby shower turned out to be a pretty
fun event, even though going in, I knew it was more about the women. Most of the guys had a decent time just catching up with everyone.
Have you ever gone to an event where it's really only intended for members of one sex?
Do you ever drag your significant other to events they don't want to go to?

Hmm...I felt like I was intruding on guys' night out at a bar the other day, but they did invite me to sit with them. It was a lot of fun.
Well, my girlfriend at the time dragged me to go see Brokeback Mountain. Of course, I was skeptical at first, but in the end, it was actually a good movie. It opened my eyes to the issue.
I also did go to a "girls night out" since of them invited me to come along. Her exact words were "be the muscle of the group to protect us." Haha.
I've dragged my significant other to an event before.. I brought him along as a security but it turned out that I didn't really need him there though. He was kind enough to be there for me :)
I spent about 4 hours at my best friend's birthday party once even though it was an all girl sleepover. I definitely wouldn't have done that for anyone else though.
well, i´ve gone to baby showers, but that was when i was little and they were of my classmate´s mom. i really wouldn´t like going to an event intended only for women, and i wouldn´t drag my significant other to a wrestling match or something like that, but i don´t have to worry about that stuff since i´m gay.
Yep, I did it plenty of times... dance and yoga class =D.
poker nights with my bf's friends. he told me that it would be fun and that i could make a lot of money by "pretending" i don't know how to play. more often than not, it felt weird being the only girl in a sausage fest, but i had some good times.
I take alot of Yoga classes. 'Nuff said.
I'm into video games and I get invited to Halo Nights decently often.
I don't drag my SO to stuff she doesn't wanna go to. I've been to a baby shower, and I didn't make a big deal out of it. Actually, there were MANY guys(family members). It wasn't a big deal. I just tried to stay in the background to not participate in the games and stuff. I just felt weird, but it wasn't too bad.
My SO has taken me to places that I wouldn't feel comfortable going to, but I go 'cause a relationship is about making sacrifices. Besides, the events haven't been too bad. I have been at a baby shower and like someone said, I blended in with the background.
I have been to many places that I didn't wanna go to but my friends did. They weren't too bad, but I tried to made the best out of it. Also, I've been to a baby shower, and they forced me to play the games. There were mainly girls, but there were other guys besides me. It wasn't a big deal. Like I said before, I just tried to make the best out of it.
I think everyone probably drags their SO to something they don't want to go to sooner or later. And they go, because they love them.
unless it's a girls' or guys' night out or in a gender-specific establishment, I think there's really no restriction on things like showers if the organizer opens it to the guys, for one
Yeah, I went to a Diablo 2 party and wasn't playing and it f*cking SUCKED. I was so bored and antsy and after 10 straight hours of them playing it and me doing nothing, I was like, FUCK THIS GUYS I'M GOING HOME and I made my boyfriend leave too.
There's no reason you have to play a computer game for 10 hours straight.
What is the point in dragging your significant other along to something they don't want to go to? That is like when I go to these women's shows that have shit for sale and you see all these chicks dragging their dudes around who you can tell dont want to be there. They are either there because the woman is so needy and has to have him by her side 24.7 or the dude is so possesive that he doesn't trust her to go anywhere alone. It is just silly really. You go do what you want, let him go do what he wants and then when you get done do something you both enjoy together.

@XxHells_GatexX@xanga - My friends wanted to play diablo 2 on hardcore mode or some shit like that and really I normally don't give a crap but I was stuck there with like 7 guys making the same noises on their computers that they don't realize are SO ANNOYING with my other, less liked friends, playing board games in the corner.

My brother used to drag me off to Buffalo Wild Wings for hot wings with his Dungeons and Dragons friends. I was always the only one there with boobs so it was kind of awkward...
LOL I would never drag my husband to a baby shower, though. That's just one of those things that shouldn't be inflicted on a man.
It's just wrong. The two guys should have just gone to Home Depot together.
Yes I've been to events intended for the opposite sex.. I didn't invite myself though, and they always made me feel like one of the gang... No, I would never make my SO go to an event that he would feel uncomfortable going to.. I also don't think that a guy should HAVE to go to a baby shower even if it is his baby.. If it is a coed thing, fine, but I honestly think this should be a girly thing.. Sorry ladies.
