  • Dating and Life: Do you still have faith in Humanity? How about lions?

Have you guys seen the video of the lion adopted by humans...  who gets too big and has to go back to Africa where he goes wild again?  And then the humans go back to Africa a year later, to see how he is doing and if he remembers them?

It sounds like a Disney special, but it actually happened! I have to admit: when I first watched the video of the humans/lion reuniting, I thought for sure that the lion was going to eat at least one of the humans.  But instead, the scene was something like this (although Whitney Houston probably wasn't singing "I Will Always Love You" in the background):

My favorite moment is at 56 seconds, when the lion's mouth drops open.  The first time I saw it, I thought he was salivating while he thought about how yummy they were gonna be in his tummy.  But he didn't eat them after all - maybe his mouth just dropped in shock?  I guess animals don't really do that, but it's nice to pretend.

I don't know why this stupid video moves me so much.  I've been thinking about it, and maybe it's kind of a test of your faith in humanity/people/lions.  I was completely convinced that the lion had forgotten them and would rip them to shreds.  But instead, he remembered them and still loved them!

As I get older, I find it harder to have faith in people (and lions).  I remember when I was young and innocent - I would totally have assumed that the lion would remember the humans.  I probably would've imagined the lion could speak English and would tell the humans, "I am now named Mufasa, king of the jungle.  Please meet my wife Sarabi and my cub, Simba."

What happened to me!  I guess life has taken its toll.  I don't know if I have enough faith left in humanity to date.  It's a good thing I am married, or I would be doomed!

How about you: do you still have faith in people?  Or do you hope for the best but expect the worst?  Or do you just expect the worst from everyone?

i agree, i've lost faith in ppl looooong time ago and i'm just glad i'm married and not dating anymore.  i expect the worst but hope for the best.  i call myself a closet optimist.

    This video is adorable.

omg this video had me all teary eyed!!! but i had total faith that the lion would remember the humans because animals never forget! i've heard of dogs remembering a person they've met 10 years before. Animals remember when they're treated well and also when they're treated badly. i really love this video. its soooo cute.

  • UnVolume@xanga

Aww, that was really cute. Although, when he started running towards the humans I thought "That's it, they're done for!"

  • lauralen@xanga

    oh...he missed them! That's nice. :)

There are always times where I become disappointed in people...sometimes in humanity, but then there's always someone who comes along and makes me realize that we aren't a completely apathetic, feckless kind.

    There's always hope.

I could watch this video ALL DAY.

  • Scriveling@xanga

I haven't had much faith in humanity since I was about 12.  I much prefer lions.

AH! I saw this video last week on the Today Show and cried. I showed it to my boyfriend last night, and I swear I logged on today intending on blogging about it. Thank you, Datingish, for beating me to the punch!

It renewed my faith in... something. I'm not exactly sure what yet. But it's just inspirational and reminds us of the good things in life. Mostly, it made me get up and give my cat a hug.

A side note: Nobody should ever lose their faith in dating. Just because you have only met assholes, doesn't mean there aren't wonderful people out there. There are BILLIONS of people in this world. You going to quit after going through ten of them, a mere fraction of a FRACTION of the pool of contestants?

  • angi1972@xanga

Ok... I am crying... lol Thanks a lot MR! Well admitedly I would have stopped crying already but I had to watch it again so the kids could see. lol That is a really moving video.

I have boundless faith in people, and sometimes it bites me in the butt, I go on though...

I think that the industry you are in might have something to do with the way you feel... It must be hard to get close to people and then have them be asses upon occasion...

    Anyway...

Oh your statement about the lion reminded me once I was at the zoo and a little kid was looking at the zebras, HIs mom said, Those are African zebras and the little kid looked at her and said "So they speak african?"

  • endlesscrowd@xanga

I have faith in them, yet everytime I trust them or anything...they let me down. It sucks, but it seems to happen all the time lately. I guess as we get older, its easier for us to hurt the people we care about and love with out really thinking. :/

  • TiRocKiinPiinK@xanga

That video had me all teary-eyed and the lion reminded me of my dog, but a lot bigger.

I still have faith in my humanity even though sometimes it seems like I shouldn't. There is always some group of people who will always be trustworthy, kind hearted, and faithful. I've been hurt before, but I always know I learned from that pain to only be stronger and trust less until time goes on.

Man, that's a good question. Before I answer it, let me say this: awesome video clip of the men and the lion's friendship. Good to know that those men and that one lion got along great. I don't know if I'd have the guts lol.

Anyway, back to the question: Normally, I expect the best from everyone I meet, sometimes my inner instinct would hold me back. Usually, I like to get along with people even though I can feel negative about how a person will interact with me. I hate having to go through rejection, betrayal, and other negative feelings that others can make me feel, and I especially hate hearing that "it's a part of life." It's true, yet I still hate hearing that. That's enough to make me lose faith in people and to shut myself away. I don't know, it's rather confusing.

  • chillin_vs_blazin_xoxoxo@xanga

awwwwwww the movie is so cute =) most of the time, I have faith in humanities, but sometimes i rather see a pet than a person, because a pet always have faith in you.

  • tialoca_talks@xanga

we are commanded by the Bible to expect the best of people...this is walking in love...I obey....as for faith, my faith is in God...

  • xxAce_Wingsxx@xanga

Uhm...no I have no faith in dating and/or boys. I only hope for the best but expect the worst. Yupp.

  • JSTM@xanga

    it long time ago...

@lauralen@xanga - Funny thing you say this lauralen, because that's exactly how you made ME feel yesterday.

  • lauralen@xanga

@the_last_kiss - *smiles* Glad to be of service.

  • LiLbabeSwT@xanga

i gotta say. this is a very insightful video and entry..
    it really made me think..
i guess we all sort of lost faith in hope in all human kinds and animals because of the so-called reality and society that we have today..
this video, and the words, really once again told me that it's okay to have faith in things, in people, or in this case, animals, when others told you to give up..
gah.. i do have lots of faith in humanity.. sadly i always hope for the best and expect the worst. =0=

  • comet555@xanga
I have more faith in animals than humans!
  • miss_joyce@xanga

i will never lose faith in the human kind.  yes, there are some really evil ones out there but for those that are good, and want to do good for the world... i still believe in you.  it's natural to get jaded after a while but i truly believe there are many good people out there.

what a great video.  thanks for sharing!

  • XXKimPossibleXX@xanga

what a wonderful video...................thanks for sharing! i've been losing faith in people, i noticed it when i taught my kids the other day, "don't say hi to people you don't know"...the kids are way too friendly.
