  • Dealbreakers and Denise Huxtable - What's Your Type?

    This is a guest blog submitted by mikeljason.

    The world is roughly 5 billion people strong - that means that theoretically, there's someone for everyone in the world. The thing is, we all have certain qualifiers and deal breakers. There are certain things we all really want - and wouldn't to date without them - and there are things that we just can't stand.

    Some people can't (or won't) date smokers. Mr. or Miss Right could be a super person with lots of awesome things about him or her, but the whole smoking bit knocks all the good stuff in the head. Other people really want to be with someone who is into a certain scene or aesthetic; think of all the emo, punk,or hip-hop couples walking about.

    I've got certain types that I dig and that kind of get my motor running.

    One girl-type I'm super into is the Denise Huxtable-type (like the from the Cosby Show). This girl is usually pretty non-conformist in attitude with dabs of native tongue style. The Denise Huxtable girl-type is usually really good for bright styles, curly-haired expanses, wearing pretty sundresses in warmer weather and chunky scarves when it's chillier. The fact the she's kinda of arty and a little bit weird always makes me smile too.

    What are your types?

    I wonder if she got along with then hubby's cousin, Cree Summer.  She's got pretty much the same personality, I think.

  • XINERGY@xanga

    Oh, and my type, apparently --  as proven by time and experience -- has been one or more of the following:

    *  long-haired musician

    *  light eyes (blue, green, hazel)

    *  light hair (blonde, light brown, surfer dude type)

    *  muscular, fit, strong

    *  funny, funny, funny

    *  intelligent, witty

    *  talented - plays a musical instrument

    *  strong, dominant personality (CEO types would be A-OK)

    I'm sure there are more.... Oh!  Yeah... Cooks.

  • UnVolume@xanga

    So far, all I've come up with for my type would be someone who doesn't look like a girl (I can't be with a guy who makes me feel like I'm tougher than him) and likes guys stuff. I couldn't care less about sports, but I think it's cute when guys do (not overly fanatical though). Oh, and clean! Clean is great.

  • AllMyNamesAreTaken@xanga

    I think I'm into athletes. Including the motorized sports, like dirt biking and street racing (haha) and that kind of thing.

  • TiRocKiinPiinK@xanga

    I can't really think of my type, I'm comparing all of the guys that I've dated and I keep coming up with they were all guys. I'm going to go with things that bother me...smoking, bad hygiene, and no goals.

  • hopelessromantic

    Definitely no smoking, although the guy I like now smokes. I don't really have a type. Sometimes the mildly artsy jerk. Sometimes the clean cut small town boy. Sometimes the dressed to impress iBanker. I know that I do like motivated, ambitious people though who work hard and value education, and also people who like the arts (whether they're creative or not, enjoying things that are "cultural" are very important to me). I'm not really sure what you would call my type...

  • Ogreatyme@xanga

    I am into the types that don't fit the social norms. Generally have dark curly hair (only one blonde), definitely a geek in one category or another I've dated everything from  the average video gamer to heavy metal geek (yes there is such a thing). What is a turn off? smoking, uber desperation (to the point of wondering where I am all the time) and jerks. Geeks tend to be very nice and respectful. Its funny though, I think only one of the guys I've dated or crushed has been considered  creepy except for one, and he was a computer geek.

  • Xetronic@xanga

    Someone who accepts me for just the way I am and doesn't want to change me to suit their needs/wants. Simple.

  • esch99@xanga

    Sort of funny that the author stuck on that 80's icon. The last time the world population was 5 billion was also 20 years ago. We're over 6.5 billion now.

    FWIW, one type I'm into is the cute and sexy librarian type that can give as good as she can take (in conversation, in bed, whatever.)

  • cinnaminflava@xanga

    EVERYONE HAS A PREFERENCE BUT I ONLY HAVE 2 NONO-NEGOTIABLES.

    NON-NEGOTIABLE: SMOKERS. PERIOD. I DONT CARE IF HE IS MR. RIGHT.  TO ME, BEING A SMOKER SPEAKS TO AN INHERENT SELFISHNESS, BEING THAT SMOKING IS AN EXTREMELY SELFISH "PERSONAL" HABIT. IT'S NOT PERSONAL; YOU CAN CONTAIN SMOKE. AND MOST SMOKERS CHOOSE TO BE BLIND TO THE FACT THAT THEY'RE SMOKE IS OFFENSIVE TO SOME PEOPLE. IT'S NOT LIKE DRINKING, OR DRUGS, OR LIKING A CERTAIN TYPE OF MUSIC; IF YOU SMOKE THERE'S NO WAY TO KEEP THAT TO YOURSELF.  TO FURTHER PROVE MY POINT, I DATED A SMOKER WHO CLAIMED HE WAS QUITTING. (A HOOK UP BY MY BEST FRIEND). THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO HIS APT, I SMELLED STALE CIGARETTES. WHEN I KISSED HIM, HIS LIPS AND SKIN TASTED LIKE STALE CIGARETTES. EWWW.  PLUS, ASIDE FROM JUST HATING THE SMELL, I'M ALERGIC TO THEM. THIS IS JUST A NON-NEGOTIABLE

    I USED TO ALSO SAY I WOULDNT DATE A GUY W/ KIDS. IN THE PAST COUPLE YEARS, I'VE LIKED/DATED 3.  THEY'VE PROVEN WHY I DIDNT WANT TO DATE GUYS W/ KIDS....

  • tubbz87

    I don't know why but I have a serious thing for guys who play hockey... I just find them incredibly sexy! Oh and I also love guys with a great sense of humour :)

  • JandJinJapan@xanga

    The woman I'm married to is the kind I'm into.  Intelligent, talented, beautiful, and having a heart for Jesus Christ.  Who could ask for more?

  • torisun@xanga

    My type has always been nice guys.  Recently, I found myself attracted to super arrogant, jackbutt types and was alarmed that maybe my career has messed up my value system and made me prioritize success, looks, smoothness over niceness.  Thankfully, after dating such guys for a couple of months, I was extremely fed-up with their inconsiderate behavior and stopped going out with them.  Now, I am comforted by the knowledge that although I might be attracted to buttheads, at least I don't put up with them!

  • lauralen@xanga

    The only non-negotiable is that he has to love Jesus.

    I tend to prefer skinny guys.

  • n3ssaac@xanga

    they have to be chinese, taller than me, and be close with their family. there's a whole list out there, but those are the most important. a deal breaker for me is if they smoke ... or don't like dogs.

  • tequila_sky@xanga

    Deal breaker if hes intolerant/ racist/ pro Bush. And my type- um don't really have any type. There just needs to be chemistry and he MUST be able to make me laugh, well I prefer it if he is smarter than me.

  • starchica0@xanga

    taller than me.  non-smoker.  a bit on the chunky side (i can't date someone who weighs less than me...).  must love football.

    i'm not picky or anything....

  • XxNoLifeKing_AlucardxX@xanga

    I don't really have a type. But, I wouldn't like for her to smoke or drink. I guess drinking during certain ocassions would be ok, but smoking is a no no. Someone who is laid back, independent, has a sense of humor, has good hygiene, intelligent (not a genius but able to talk about certain things and points), respects herself as well as others, isn't high maintenance...and a list follows. But, it's not really a big deal. I have a thing for independent, intelligent...lol basically strong women. Strong willed women are hot ;)

  • XxHells_GatexX@xanga

    No smoking or drinking. No a racist person or someone who loves to make fun of other people. I'd like for her to respect herself and others. Love me the way I am and don't try to change me unless I'm doing something harmful to others or myself.

  • XxDead_SithxX@xanga

    I like 'em to be smart, funny( just have some sense of humor), athletic(doesn't have to be a pro but not a couch potato either), independent, respects herself..I can't think of anything else. No drinking or smoking.

  • la_faerie_joyeuse@xanga

    My type?  I guess the artistic kind - I dated a writer, I crushed on an artist, and my current boyfriend is a musician.  I like men who are confident and strong, with dark hair (or red hair!).  I prefer tall men (6'1-6'3) who are intelligent and witty.

    Dealbreakers?  lack of intelligence, smoking/extensive drinking, past history of infidelity or abuse, or fanatical religious beliefs.

  • coconutdusha@xanga

    For me it would be, a guy that

    plays  a guitar, has dark hair, beautiful eyes, cares about education, will listen to you and even give advice, can dance, eager to learn anything new, does a sport as a hobby

    the turn offs:

    he smokes, drinks, or does any drugs, is boring to talk to, talks about sex a lot, gives many compliments, cares about looks too much, plays video games all the time

  • SerenityHalo@xanga

    1.  Christian
    2.  Foreign?
    3.  I like dark hair, dark skin, but blondes are cool too.
    4.  Can sing
    5.  Has a brain
    6.  Has ambitions
    7.  Taller and fatter than me
    8.  Funny
    9.  Easy going
    10.  Not angry at all.

    Holy cow, does that exist?

  • serotoxin@xanga

    My preference tends to be towards intelligent and easy-going guys. I also like guys who are relatively masculine. I don't find it attractive when a male is more feminine than I am, hah.

    Absolute dealbreakers: Lack of intelligence, drug usage, and cheaters.

    I don't think I'd want to kiss a smoker, but I've never had to opportunity. Maybe I'd like the taste of chemicals and nicotine, hah. ;3.

  • akandjievo@xanga

    yes,everybody has a list of desired (or inquired) qualities...it's like we buy a car? i had a friend who was not really attractive,but she couldn't find a boyfriend because she was looking for "good,handsome,intelligent,if it's possible rich guy" ...uhhh,do you think if he really existed he would choose exactly her?  i think we should lower our expectations or just be realistic...

    my type?- well, i just have to feel comfortable with s.o.,be free to say what i want without wondering if he will like it or not, or in one word- i just have to be able to be myself...

    but i definitely can say i can't be with the artistic type- they are so selfish and they don't care much about the people around them because they consider themselves somehow above us the mortal ...a conversation with them is like he is having a monologue and you just can't say anything....(NO OFFENSE to anybody ,it's just my own personal experience!)

    well,everyone has the right to choose:)
