  • Little Romantic Gestures Add Up

    By Miss Double Shot

Check out this clip from Say Anything... starting around 6:30. You'll see Lloyd (John Cusack) do Diane (Ione Skye) a little favor that she remembers and appreciates.

"Dad, do you you know what he did the first night I went out with him?" she asks her father later in the movie. "We were walking across by the 7-11 and he pointed out some glass for me to walk around. And I always think of that when people ask me, 'what are you doing with Lloyd Dobler?'"

Little gestures like that are hard to forget - has anyone done something for you like what Lloyd did for Diane? If not, what would you love to have someone do?

I had someone actually ask me what my favorite flower was.....no guy has ever asked...they just assume every girl wants roses and that they are the perfect gift.  But to actually be asked was one of those things that may have seemed little but ended up being huge to me.

My boyfriend once peeled an entire bag of grapes for me.
That was the single most amazing thing in the world.

I love little gestures like that! It's very true that the little tiny gestures add up, especially for girls. My ex and I were talking about that. I was trying to explain that little gestures are so much more important than big gestures. My explanation was kind of "helping me with my coat is one point. buying me a Lamborghini is five points. so all those little gestures that are so much easier add up so much faster than grand gestures. little gestures go along way." I love when guys open car doors for me (or doors in general, but I expect everyone to be courteous and hold doors open for each other). Or when they call/text just to say they were thinking of me.

John Cusack in Say Anything is my dream guy.

when my crush (now my boyfriend) electricity went out (no internets), he called me right away. :p I thought it was sweet. we've never phoned before and he complained he hated to phone, but he phoned me anyway. :D

Every time my boyfriend pours me a glass of milk (I drink it with EVERYTHING) from a new jug, he takes the little ring under the cap, shapes it into a heart, and floats it in my milk. Sometimes he'll just leave them around the apartment for me to find.

My crush calls my work phone at night when I'm not there and leaves funny voice mail messages. It brightens up my mornings!

My boyfriend does little things for me all the time. Cook for me, read to me, but most importantly, he pays attention to the little quirks I have and facial expressions so always knows when I have something on my mind. That's incredibly romantic IMO.

I've got a little notebook that I write in to record all the little gestures he's done for me that I appreciate & love so much. Then on our anniversary, I sat down with him & read my list aloud even though I originally planned on writing them down & giving it to him. Here's a few:
-showing up for my pinning ceremony with flowers even though it's not that important of an event [it was also the first time he got me flowers.. he tried really hard to find my fave but he couldn't so he settled with getting me a bouquet of spring flowers]
-driving me to my first teaching licensure exam 'cause it was really far away in some unknown area & then picking me up after. [he woke up really early just to send me & he chose to pick me up when I called after my exam]
-surprising me outside of the school I was student teaching at
-picnicking this past weekend at a place I've never been.. he brought everything!
& so much more~ I try to have one for every month. hehe. I'm a sappy one. xD

The first Valentine's Day my first love and I came across couldn't be spent with each other. Before he left, we spent some time together, and he gave me my gifts then. On the actual day, he had sent me a card from New York with a letter about how much he loved me inside of it. Then, that night, he e-mailed me a picture of him with a wine glass full of coke, toasting me. It was really cheesy but incredibly thoughtful and nice. I've kept on loving him for that and all of the other little things he did for me since then.

my boyfriend does that for me. if the floors wet he'll try to carry me or at least help me leap over it. he knows all my idiosyncrasies that i dont even notice. he remembers where every birthmark is. he recognizes all my facial expressions especially my "thinking face" and he'll ask, "what are you thinking about?" and usually its something completely random but still he doesn't laugh. he remembers how i like my coffee, bacon, eggs, and other food items. he'll cut my meat  and feed me. he'll kiss my hand while he's driving even when i'm sleeping. he'll come home with flowers just because. sometimes i feel like he knows me better than i know me.

The bf walks on the side of the street and he always physically goes around me so I can walk closer to the sidewalk/grass area.  When he's driving, he tries to hold my hand as much as possible, unless he's shifting gears.  Once we were sitting outside watching a movie.  Even though we had a blanket, he could feel that I was still shivering so he tuck the blanket higher under my chin.  He always asks if he's squishing my arm when we're cuddling.  Also because we talk online a lot, he'll email me when he gets into work (at 7) to let me know if he can't be online.

Reading the comments made me all happy and tingly.

He leaves me sweet texts while he's at work. =D

  • josiebunny@xanga

I think I took the things my boyfriend does for granted, and I'm glad I read over the comments other girls wrote... because mine does most of those, too. I don't think I ever realized how many little things he did for me until just now. :) He's a sweetheart.

    I'm a lucky girl.

just being the expert on picking out the best mango during the season - i am very picky with my mango and my ex husband has perfected on how to pick out the best one. He had weirdly created a strategy on how to! And up to this day, i still don't know how he does it bec he always used to buy me the best ones!  that's one thing i miss the most and the most important too than anything money can buy for me ... bec i really love mango and it's very hard to pick the right one for me AND mango season (the type that i like) only comes (at most) 2 months in a year. :)

When I was sick back the first year my husband and I were dating, I was in so much pain I was crying (I had a UTI). Laying on the couch shivering even though it was 85* outside. He went to get me some cranberry juice and a thermometer,...and also brought back a box of Oreos He knew I'd been craving Oreos for awhile, so he picked those up to make me feel better.

When I go out shopping or whatever, sometimes I'll get him a treat like Sprees, pretzel, or a Snickers bar just to show I'm thinking of him while I'm out, and giving him something he likes. I also send little texts during the day from time to time with a made-up song for him, or just an "I love you". He did that more in the beginning of our relationship when we lived apart than he does now.

If we're laying together on the couch, he worries whether or not he's hurting my arm or leg or whatever he might be laying on. He'll start to run his fingers on my back or legs while watching a movie because he knows how much I enjoy that.

I love it most when he just calls my name, even if we're sitting 10 feet apart ... just to get my full attention ... then says "I love you!"

  • gapeach@xanga

@caeliosophy@xanga - he is.  =P  i was telling a friend about him and she (being single) was like, 'you have no idea how much i hate you right now' hahaha.

  • gapeach@xanga

We need some males here to show much they appreciate their women!!

Hello! I'm just stopping by to say hi.And I agree, little romantic gestures do add up. It's the little things that matter the most. I'm not ready to date yet, but when i do I would love it if my date would put their arms around me when they notice I'm cold. Cheesy I know but I think it's sweet. =)

  • RedheadAblaze@xanga

I wish more people would realize that it's the little things in life that makes it worth living.  I don't need the jewelry, the car, or the big screen TV.  It's the flower that was picked in the garden on the way in the house, or the pretty shell that reminded you of me.  That's all I need in life.

  • ks_chenyah@xanga

They do add up.  And because it seems so natural and unplanned, it carries a certain sense of being more sincere than a grand or expensive gesture.
