  • Dinner Date Disasters

    By Miss Double Shot

I was out on a first date a few years ago, and although the guy and I were getting along pretty well, we went to a pretty saucy dim sum place and I had no idea what I was ordering. I'm very independent, so I don't like asking others for help and I wanted to make my own decisions at this particular dinner.

I ordered tofu something-or-another - it was still soft and slippery - and I couldn't get a good enough grasp on it to cut it with chopsticks or a fork . . . so I tried to eat the whole thing at once.

    Cue choking.

The guy didn't know what to do and I was trying my best to clear my airway while keeping my composure. It didn't go too well . . . talk about a first impression!

Dating lore says that there are certain foods you shouldn't eat on a date - the two that come to mind most are broccoli (which gets caught in your teeth) and spaghetti (which is difficult to eat gracefully and tomato sauce splatters all over the place). I had no idea tofu had a place on that list, too, but needless to say, I haven't picked out that particular dish or gone to a dim sum place again on a date.

What are some foods you absolutely won't order on a date?
