Miss Double ShotMy friend has a 45 minute commute every morning that's usually spent waking up to music and reading. Like most people on the train, she listened to her iPod on the way to work, but one morning, she jumped on the F train and pushed the on button, only to find the worst possible situation for a commuter who wanted musical bliss on her morning ride.
Her battery was dead.
She didn't realize until that day, though, that she shared the same commuting schedule as a cute guy who had been trying to catch her eye since she had moved to the city
Their eyes met on the train and they started talking. Train Guy admitted that he'd always been trying to get her attention but didn't try to talk to her because he was afraid of bothering her.
She'd never realized that anyone had been trying to get her attention because she'd always been so engrossed in reading or iPodding - all it took was one day of her looking around at everyone else to realize what was going on around her.
And although nothing came out of the whole situation (he took the later train and she hasn't seen him for a while), "I've never been happier to have a dead battery," she told me later.
Do you ever get lost in your own world, and just tune out everything and everyone around you?

I am always in my own little world. I zone out in car rides and just stare at the window. Someone needs to either yell at me or poke my shoulder hard to get my attention back to earth. ha
i ALWAYS have my ipod on wherever i am. once though, i was on the airport shuttle and didn't have it with me, and i ended up meeting this guy. that's still not enough incentive for me to give up my music though haha.
ahh doesn't this happen to so many people on the train? maybe more for guys but we see a cutie every morning on the subway and try to see her. it's actually disappointing if one person is running late.
My junior ear of high school I started dating this guy who was 1 year older, and a few months in he admitted that he'd had a crush on me the entire year before. I hadn't even known him yet. It was such a weird feeling, knowing that he's been watching me when I had no idea who he was.
Of course I do. Though even when I'm not I don't usually meet and talk to random people.
I too have a 45 minute commute everyday and would be lost without my Ipod (and probably forced to give endless directions to tourists).
