  • Do Drunk Dials Ring True The Next Morning?

    By Miss Double Shot

Drunken confessions are nothing new, but they've become exponentially more widespread and convenient with the advent of cell phones. Calls at 3 a.m. are sort of an expectation if you have friends with access to phones and alcohol.

I'm guilty of both texting and calling people under the influence - somehow it always seems like a really good idea - and have sent some interesting messages that made me cringe the next morning when my friends would play them back for me, laughing and reciting my nonsensical word vomit along with my recorded voice.

"Listen to you," my best friend said the morning after his birthday, holding up his phone as my obnoxious sounding "hiiiiiii! what'reyoudoooooing?" came out over his speaker. "Ijustwantedtocalltosayhi.....Iloveyou...andhappybirthday."

One of my friends, a journalism major, kept the numbers of people he'd interviewed for class in his phone and left a message sloshed by accident - needless to say, I went through my contacts and deleted everyone I didn't know very well, lest I give them a call in an altered state.

Alcohol can also make us think that it's a great idea to tell someone what we really think of them romantically. One of my friends would call girls - mutual friends of ours - while he was drunk and tell them how he really felt about them. He was what he and my friends called "emotionally challenged" - if you can only tell someone how you feel when you're not exactly yourself, there's a problem there.

After we overanalyzed his messages for the thousandth time, the girls and I would both wonder whether or not to take his words seriously or if it was even worth asking what he'd meant. I doubt he'd remember or care to explain what he said.

Are you a drunk dialer? Have you ever faced consequences based on communication you've had with others while inebriated?
